High Temperature Tape?

Since I bored a gauge hole out a bit anticipating I'd be able to use a braided hose kit for my oil pressure gauge, the hole is too big now to hold the gauge since I had to stick with the nylon tubing. I have been using regular 3M electrical tape to keep it in place. It works great, the gauge fits in the pod perfectly, until it sits in the sun for awhile and the tape/glue heats up so much and becomes so "pliable," that the gauge works its way out of the pod. I then have to pull the gauge all of the way out and put a new piece of tape on.

If I got some high temperature tape, is there a specific heat resistance that I should look for? I don't know how hot it gets, so I'm not sure what I should get. Before it gets said, I know I should get a new pod, but I don't have the money or time to invest into that option at the time (1/2 of my shifts at work got cut some time ago, just making it by right now). A roll of tape is much more feasible since it is getting the job done.

Thanks guys!

Try the fibreglass high heat tape in black from a hardware store...the kind used for irons & heating elements...should work.

I'm not sure I understand the situation but if I have a hose that's too small for the opening, I'll try to wrap it with a short piece of rubber hose and tie wrap it in place. That's assuming you can get to the back of the opening. You don't want to tie wrap around the oil pressure hose directly.

I will stop by a couple of places in town tomorrow and see if I can find some of that, thanks Walt!

The gauge itself in the gauge hole. I was going to use braided line but no matter how much I shaved off of the pillar pod, it wouldn't fit so I used the nylon tubing that came with it. Now the hole is bigger than the gauge so it pops out. I'd get a pic but the car is under 2 covers.

I would be cautious about the nylon tubing. I used it years ago on my truck and Mustang. After a couple of years of heat cycles on the tubing, I was working on my truck and my hand bumped the tubing and it snapped in two. That stuff really becomes brittle after a while.

I will only go with electrical gauges these days. Word to the wise.
