Question How Low Are Your Side Skirts?

How low are your side skirts? I measured mine tonight and I am 4 1/8" off the ground. I was just wondering where everyone else is sitting! I love the look but I am scraping the entrance in to my work just about every time I leave. Besides, I now have to park on the street at home.

I am thinking about going over to the metal shop behind my work and see if I can have them cut me some aluminum strips to rivet under the side skirts. Sort of like a skid plate for the skirts. I figure to use something thin enough not to be noticable but just thick enough to allow it to prevent the plastic from scraping over bumps. I am worried that these little mishaps are going to cause the paint to start peeling on the edges of the skirts. Over time I am sure that it would eventually rub through the metal but I think it would be better than rubbing through the skirt. Any thoughts?

That sound will make your nads curl up. I hear ya though thats a tough predictament you are in. I assume you are taking the necessary precautions when leaving work, going at an angle and reeeaaalll slow ?

There are some entrances I have learned to avoid or find alternate access. The shopping center near our home as two entrances one has a peak and I used that one only once (the Nads thing).

Its the price we pay for having the low profile......

Let us know how the aluminum strips work out if you go that route. Maybe someone else here as found another solution too.

Will do! I am pretty sure it should work. Given the fact that the skirts are as low as they are, I don't think you would be able to see the aluminum strip unless you got down and looked underneath. I walked back and saw the guys next door a little while ago and he said he could cut me anything I wanted. I thought of using a strip about 1" wide by 1/16" thick running the length of the skirt and using rivets with an aluminum backplate on the inside of the skirt to prevent the rivets from popping loose on the soft plastic. This might do just the thing for that occassional scrub! I would much prefer to hear the metal scrubbing the pavement than my paintjob!

Dang Jeff; I know I would be hating life if mine were that low!!! I would not dare try that where I live. The roads around Raleigh are ok but that would probably bottom out on most dips in the road here! Rock on!!!

I measured the ground to the bottom of the skirt at the front of the car. I dont even want to know how much clearance from the side pipe to the ground lol

I went out and snapped a shot of mine this morning. The only place I rub is going into my apartment complex if I forget to take it at an angle.

4 1/2 behind the front tire, 5 at the tips and 5-6 for the front facia. The car is all original from Roush/Ford with no additional mods.
