Roush Bullitt??
Hey guys, I need some opinions please...
I'm strongly considering buying a new Bullitt. I've always been a fan of them, but it's mostly due to the fact that it doesn't make sense for me to spend 40k+ on a newer Stage 2 and I don't want to pay even more for a 427R or Stage 3. Handling isn't actually that bad compared to my stage II. Only thing I don't like about them is the lack of a spoiler. Just don't think the new body style looks good without one. So I was thinking of throwing on a Roush spoiler, some window louvres and possibly a different hood then having them install a Roushcharger out of the gate. Does anyone think the visual changes would defeat the purpose of buying a Bullitt? I'd like to Roush it up, but I can't make up my mind. Just looking for ideas... Wondering how much I would get hated on for "messing" up a Bullitt. Here's a visual of what I'm going for... ![]()

The 2008-9 bullitt is nice but it's really only cosmetic when compared to the upgrades over a standard GT in the 2001 version. I really enjoyed my 2001 Bullitt and would like another one someday, I would not have traded it in on anything other than my Stage 3.
It just seems to me that the new Bullitt is missing something. Like others have said, why not build up a GT to what you are looking for performance and style wise. Or even sit tight a bit and see what the 2010 has to offer. ![]() Based on your sig, I really don't see a problem with your current ride though. |

Shay: Thanks for the input man. I like the interior too. I'm also thinking about it because of the individuality. Probably would be the one of the only Bullitt's out there slightly Roushified... I'd expect to get slammed by a few of the IMBOC peeps thought but I think it would be a sweet ride imo.
vista_blue: i like the "uniqueness" of a having a bullitt kind of like how i like having a genuine roush. no offense to any of the "built" roushes out there. plus i've always liked the old school Bullitts. and they're really not all that more expensive than a GT so price isn't an issue. especially when you take into consideration how much that bullitt paint might cost... I guess the real issue I'm realizing is having to part my Roush... Can't get over giving up a Roush for a Bullitt right now.

Well I think what you said would look good, but imho I would not do that to a Bullitt since its a serialized Mustang. Now, for me it changes things if Roush did it and they numbered it also though.
But what do I know, do what makes you happy!! ![]()

TJ4Cam: Could I send it to Roush and have them do work on it and badge it? Do they do stuff like that?

Yes you can. Buy it or arrange with RP before you buy it to have it done. I would check with Steve Ford at RP and he can help with this. You can call Roush Performance and leave a message for him or if you PM me your number I will pass it along to him. I know he is helping someone do a similiar type deal right now but not a Bullitt. This would be awesome to see done in my opinion! If you don't go wanna mess with going through RP just find an authorized RP Dealer and work with them but I would go with RP to have it done right.

I wouldn't alter a Bullitt to be a Roush, but i would alter a Roush to mimmick a Bullitt, if that makes sense. I am a big Roush fan, but a HUGE Bullitt fan. And up until about two nights ago, I was willing to sell my '01 Bullitt (along with all my other vehicles) to get into a Roush 428R. If I couldn't get one in the black on black like I wanted, I was going to have one painted Highland Green, and make the thing into a Bullitt tribute, but still be a Roush.
I guess it depends on which camp you are from... The Bullitt guys will tell you it's blasphemous to convert a Bullitt to a Roush, as I'm sure the hardcore Roush guys would say I was blasphemous with my idea of turning a Roush 428R into a Bullitt tribute. (i even went so far as to photoshop a 428R to Highland Green, just to see what it'd look like... ) |

Black_Bullitt: Yeah... I'm afraid I might get some serious heat from the devoted Bullitt fans out there but I love the car and I feel it could look a little beefier. I think the older Bullit looks beefier than the new one. And I wouldn't turn it into a Roush. I just want some of the aesthetics to be there and maybe slap on a Roush suspension with a Roushcharger. Maybe this is going over the line but I think the new Bullitt with a Cervini GT500 bumper like in the pic above with a Roush spoiler, some window louvres and maybe even a Roush hood scoop would make it look mean as hell. Mean enough to make me happy and maybe weather the hate storm from the Bullitt community.
Never an easy situation when you love two women. =P Love Roush too much to give it up completely, so best of both worlds maybe?

I definitely think the Bullitt would benefit from the Roush suspension/power add-ons, But I'm not sure if throwing a big ole body kit (even as nice as the Roush kits are) would be the way to go. The Bullitt was all about being understated; a sleeper. The stock look of them certainly pulls that off well. Even among the Bullitt owners I know and have spoken to, the 08's are love it or hate it. Myself, I like it, but agree it could use visual aids... If it were ME, I like your idea of the GT500 front bumper. and alternative to that, in order to keep the stock headlights, would be to throw a Saleen Heritage bumper cover on the front. I know Saleen is probably a bad word around here, lol, but that bumper is essentially the Shelby GT500 bumper, minus the slanted uprights, so you can keep the stock headlights. I could see doing the window louvers too, but I would shy away from a spoiler or hood scoop. MAYBE a small ducktail spoiler would work, but I don't see a spoiler fitting the true Bullitt theme. As for the hood, one of the most common/practical things to do is to put a twin vented heat extractor style hood on the Bullitts, since that is what the GT390 from the movie had on it.
fwiw, my 428R Bullitt tribute I was going to work on would only have received the seats and steering wheel out of the '08 Bullitt... And DHG paint, if I couldn't get the back one i wanted. (I have a thing for black Ford vehicles, lol) |

Well, just got off the phone with Steve. Real nice guy, very helpful. Said that the could definitely work on it but it wouldn't be a serialized car. If it doesn't come off of the roush factory line they wouldn't be able to slap a serial # on it. Still thinking of doing it though... Maybe I could just paint the current one Highland Green and be done with the whole idea lol.

Aren't there some "dealer" custom Roush's out there that weren't built by Roush originally that have serial numbers?
