Thread: How to Spot an "Authentic" ROUSH Vehicle

It's a question I hate to ask, but bears asking and answering. I know all the information on ROUSH and how to spot an "authentic" ROUSH. I built a ROUSH stage II and i'm pretty upset that i can't register my car on the ROUSHperformance website, or have any pictures posted on their site because i don't have an "authentic" ROUSH with a ROUSH serial number. Am i really looked down upon for building my own ROUSH stage II out of a GT Premium? I do many car shows with it, and have never called it "authentic" but it IS a ROUSH with ROUSH components (ie. Suspension, exhaust, body kit, CAI). But because it's not "authentic" is it looked down upon? If the day i ever had to sell (OH NO!!) I would NEVER sway or swindle anyone into thinking it was anything other than what it is: a modified Ford Mustang with ROUSH components. I'm almost to the point where I wish i COULD sell it and find an "authentic" ROUSH, but it's SO difficult to find in MY particular color (u3). I'd also be afraid to buy a "used" ROUSH, if i would have had the money to buy a "new" ROUSH, i would have at the time of purchase, but i didn't, so I settled for building a Stage II. Like i said, it's just kind of eating away, and bothering me right now. Thanks for reading.

Great post sounds alot like me my car as it stands now would be a fully loaded stage 1. It's also something I've been thinking about, I wouldn't sell my car for a real used roush though since I bought my GT premium new. While I know mine isn't authentic and i would never sell it to anyone as such even though I don't have plans to sell it ever. Do you have any pics of yours?

    Welcome to the family.
It's not looked down upon (usually). Immitation is the most sincere form of flattery. It's really all in how you present it. Call it a clone, fake, copy, home made, tribute or anything similar - just don't play it off as authentic. That's usually the part that rubs people the wrong way.

If you look around the site a bit, you'll see some of the nicest cars here are owner assembled with Roush parts.

    Frankenstein

Probably the best way to explain or advertise it, if you should sell it, is to say it's a Mustang GT with the Roush Stage 2 performance kit. Mine started as a Roush Sport, barely a Roush, but is badged as a Stage 2 with all the parts to include the P-51 stuff. Most people who see my car and know what to look for are very confused. I just tell them it started as a Sport and now it's Frankenstein.

Welcome and thanks for sharing ... because asking a question you're not sure you want to hear the answer to is tough.
Matt pretty much hit it on the head "It's really all in how you present it."
Clones, fakes, copy, home built, tributes ..... are always going to surround a company that allows it's parts to be sold separately.

FNSweet is built on authentic and conversion vehicles because the one thing we all share is the same passion and love for the ROUSH product brand. If anyone is 'looking down' on the car that is properly represented then they're not an enthusiast you should probably associate with. I wouldn't. Whether you wrote the check to Jack once or several times to get the right parts .... the result should be the same, a great looking ride you're proud of.

As for registering your 'built' ROUSH on their site .... all things aren't fair but there is a difference in SPOTTING AN AUTHENTIC ROUSH. Without it the production vehicles wouldn't carry the weight they deserve. But that doesn't diminish what you've built .... heck most of the ROUSHs on FNS are heavily modified from their original build sheets.

We're Mustang owners. We want what we want , how we want it.
