Heavy Duty Roush Belt Tensioner Arms!!!

Running around with a supercharged 2005+ Mustang with the stock serpentine belt tensioner? You haven't had any problems with it yet, but you've heard of tons of other people bending, and sometimes snapping, their stock tensioners, even factory supercharged Saleen and Roush vehicles. It starts as a squeak, typically first on stick shift cars, then progresses to a chirp, and boost loss, then shredded belts, tossed belts, and even an occasional tensioner arm that completely snaps off.

But you don't need to worry about it, it won't happen to you, right? :roflmao: Your car is special.

Rather than wait for it to be a problem, be a responsible car modifier and do some preventative maintainance. Not all tensioner issues start with the belt squeak to give you a warning; some go straight from not being a problem to being a two piece modular tensioner. Is it worth a few bucks to possibly have it screw up some pullies or have a chunk of that smash the hood or something on the front cover?

Belt slip = boost loss = lost power. What people usually forget is that with less boost, you're also getting lower fuel pressure. Lower fuel pressure at high rpm causes bad, bad things. As good as your tune can be, if your mechanical isn't there to support it, the setup is no good. If your tuner is expecting 9psi up top and you're only getting 7 or 8, it's going to throw the entire tune off.

Roush tensioners are $189.00 through JDM for these first 100 units. Pricing will go up significantly after that.

In addition, JDM Engineering is now

offering a LIFETIME GUARANTEE

on these units. If you break it, we will send you a new unit (you cover shipping and handling). We'll do our best to help you diagnose your squeal/slip/chirp/break, and if we believe it is the tensioner, you get a new one regardless of your power level. Whether you are running 8 psi or 45 psi, 400whp or 7000whp, you break it, we'll replace it.

We have been selling it for a few weeks, its what came on the P51 cars. I believe we have the exclusive on these from Roush at the moment as we ordered over 100 units on our initial purchase, we have moved quite a few and are looking forward to stocking more! They are a really hot item and they perform thats the best part. For a Mod under $200 its very affordable too!

Does it fray the belt like the P-51? I heard the tensioner was causing the P-51 belt issues.

That is actually a characteristic of the belt material itself, on the P51.

Id say its more a pulley alingment issue than the tensioner. The tensioner if bent will ride the belt off on an angle and shred it. Now the Roush tensioner ive never seen one bend and like mentioned above ill send you a FREE new one if it does!

I had one instance with a P51 car i saw at a track event in virginia. I felt it was a belt alignment issue after i saw his problem. He was actually throwing the belt off under hard driving. To me it looked as if the alignment of the altenator was off and was throwing the rest of the belt routing off.

Any advice!! I really do, our office manager was always in charge of this and was using someone out of canada however he wont respond to my emails or requests for updates and changes anymore. Kinda sucks when you pay for a service and nothing happens.

JimIII,

First let me say, that looks like a pretty beefy tension arm. What has me confused here is you say this is the unit that comes on the P51. There have been many cases documented here on the forum where people with the P51 were having their tension arm break within days of buying their car. Is this model you are showing an upgrade even beyond what Roush built for the 151 cars they built?

No, as far as we know this is the factory P51 tensioner.

With the exception of the factory P51 cars, we are not aware of a single case on record of someone else breaking or bending one of these units, we've sold them to TVS2300 customers, RoushChargers, a ton of Saleen blowers, one Paxton, a couple Prochargers, and a 324cid N/A motor, as well as some pre-2005 stuff.

Unless Roush did something different with this first run of tensioners for us that they did not inform us of, we are assuming it is another issue with the P51 cars. Considering every TVS2300 we've put on a stock motor or mail-ordered and sent a tensioner has not had a problem, and that's the factory P51 supercharger and the kit comes with the factory P51 lower pulley.

Yes, on two. Also used it on KB cars, a 98 Cobra (not mine), and a couple centrifugal cars. It's a direct replacement for the stock unit, so belt size stays the same unless you have the tensioner tab knocked off.

Chris@JDM

What do you mean by "unless you have the tensioner tab knocked off"?
When they installed my Whipple, the tab was ground off per Whipple's installation manuel.

If you remove the stob tab as chris mentioned its just going to allow the arm to travel down that much further and allow a shorter belt to be installed. When the belt is on you want it to be nuetral between the two stops (if the one is off then nuetral between where it sat and the one remaining sits) too far to one side or another will tell you if the belt is too tight or lose.
