How do I deal with Water Spots?

I was washing my wifes Exployer today and thought I would really take care of it for her and do the whole polish and wax thing when I noticed water spots all over the right side and glass. What is the best way to take care this. The only thing I can think of is using the poter cable with some light swirl removal... Any other suggestions? And what about the glass?

I have used some stuff on the glass that came in a brown plasic bottle that dissolves the mineral depostis on the glass (DO NOT USE ON THE PAINT).......I think its called Bar Keepers Friend. It is a acid based chemical used for removing stains and mineral deposits on glasses etc. It worked great but I cant seem to find it in the regular stores anymore. It used to be in the cleaning supply isle.

Yeah it may not be Bar Keepers Friend but it was something in a brown little bottle and when it was put on the winshield it kinda smoked a bit and then wiped the stains right off and it looked like a new piece of glass.

I found this in a Google search.

Thanks Guys. Bar Keepers Friend was actually what I was thinking about trying on the glass. I have used it in the past for really gritty windows with great results. Just don't know if it will take off the hard water marks. If I cannot find spotx today I will have to give the Bar Keepers a try and if it fails order the spotx. Thanks for the link SENECA.

Now how about the paint? Swirl remover with the porter Cable?

Go easy on the glass with barkeepers, is abrasive.
What you need is a mild acid, just for grins, try some lemon juice.

The first thing I would do is try a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar, this should break up the mineral deposits. You can also claybar glass.

Another thing I like to do is use a polish with the Porter Cable on glass.

For the paint just start out with a light abrassive polish and see how that works, if that doesn't do the trick bump up to the medium polish.

Thanks Justin, I tried the Vinegar and no joy... guess I'll try the polish. By the way are you saying that there is a different clay bar for the glass?

I have heard that glass cleaner and a Magic eraser works. I havent tried it though. I buy some stuff at my local marina for my boat. Cant recall what it is called but you could probably find a product by doing a Google search. It's a common issue with boat windshields.

No, you can just use a regular claybar to clean the glass, you can also use it on your rims also. Once my claybar starts getting to dirty to use on the paint, I use it for the wheels.

Meguiar's M04, some terry toweling, and elbow grease generally works pretty well on water spots on glass.

I found oout from that frined what the "secret recipe" is.Its called
WHINK RUST REMOVER....it works flawlessy and quickly!!!

Just do not get any on your hands,or in your mouth and try not to get it on painted surfaces(it does contain Hydochloric Acid). All of which are no problem at all.It will make anyones windows like a mirror with very little effort and I am all about "very little effort".
I found it at Winn Dixie in the cleaning supplies section.
Here is there website..... http://www.whink.com/rust_stain_remover.htm .....believe me you will thank me when you try it.
What I do is put gloves on (sometimes),put a little bit on a clean cloth and work in a small circular motion covering small areas at a time (4" by 4") and you will see the water stains disappear. Then I go over the area with Windex to clean up the resulting residue from all the hard water buildup being removed.

Your Welcome
