Am I doing it right?

Justin,

Got started using the clay bar on my car today, but I must admit that I'm a noob to using a clay bar. So, just a couple of questions to make sure I'm doing it right...I'd hate to get it all done and find out that I did it all wrong!

I'm using lots of the lubricant spray...kneading the clay and flattening it out to about 1/4 inch thick and using it in the palm of my hand to rub over the car. Rubbing the clay until I can't feel any resistance anymore and it slides over the paint as if it were glass. Using some, but not a lot of pressure when rubbing. I can feel rough spots in places and then seem to be able to feel when they are gone and the surface smooths up. Doing an area of about 1 foot square at a time. After I wipe off the lubricant spray and wipe it dry, my bare finger will squeak when pulled across the paint surface.

So, does it sound like I'm getting it right?

Also, any special tips or tricks to using the polish I ordered from you as the next step in the process?

Can't wait until I get the clay bar and polish done, so that I start in with the Wet Obession!

Thanks,

Dave

Sounds like you are doing everything right with the claybar. You are using plenty of lubrication, so that is good. Make sure you don't apply any pressure and let the bar glide over the surface. You shouldn't feel any rough spots when you are done.

With the polish work on 2x2 sections also. You only have to use a little bit, just work it into the paint until it becomes almost clear and then take it right off, do this for each panel the same.

Then you are ready for the wax! Remember you only have to use a little with this too, apply it thin and put it on the panel then you can take it right off or come back to it later, I've found that it works great both ways!

Can't wait to hear your thoughts and see some pictures!

Justin,

Thanks for the consult and advice....nothing like getting training from the professional! I can only grab an hour or two here and there to work on the car, so it might be a few days before it's done. But, I promise photos when it is!

Mustanger....I'll see if I can telepathically work on your car as I'm doing mine...let me know if you see any difference in the way it looks, in the next few days!

Justin,

I've gotten the claybar and polish done....ready to start waxing!

My time for working on the car is limited. Besides my regular work as the farm manager of our family farm, I also take care of my Mom, who just turned 85 a few days ago. She suffered a stroke in January of this year and is not yet very mobile and still has some medical complications, related to the stroke. I spend a lot more time with her now, to see that she's comfortable and is taken care of, the best way I know how. I can pretty much only get an hour or two, here and there to work on the car on rainy days when I can't be working outside.....so it's kind of slow going. But I'm ready to start waxing, just as soon as I can get back to the car.

I still promise photos when it's waxed!

A trip to Vegas is always good to.

I really need to buy this stuff, but I am concentrating on just making the payments for now.
