Ridge Motosports park looks like a fun track. I can't wait for winter to be over.

    I tried the
Falken AZENIS RT-615. They were cheap and were good for the price. The down side .. after 20 minutes on track on a hot day they would get greasy.

Toyo RA1's - I like them a lot. I see a lot of them on track days. They are discontinued and not available in 275 40 18's. Miatia guys love them because the run them right down to the cords. No heat cycle issues.

888's - I buy my tires from a guy in MD. He races a BMW in the Grand Am series. He recommended them to me. I was hesitant to buy them because of the issues I read online. Mostly heat cycle issues. That occurs when you heat up the tires and they become unusable even thought they have tread left. He assured me on a heavy car I will wear the 888's out before they heat cycle. The Miata guys are not big fans of them. The tend to heat cycle them before they wear out. So the RA1's gave them more bang for their buck. They are use to using worn out RA1's as slicks.

The 888's are probably better than the NT-01 for guys like me. I keep my track tires on all the time. You would not want to get caught int he rain with NT-01's on. Because f that ... the NT-01's are better on the track on a dry day .. but any wetness and you need to pit.

The tires are very similar, in fact the compounds between the NT-01 are similar to 888's. Toyo owns Nitto BTW so they certainly share DNA.

The difference is that the R888's are designed to run from full tread down, The NT-01 is going to be a better tire new because it doesn't have much tread at all.

I have looked around for some A/B same day testing and only found a 1 (maybe two) in which both cases the drivers preferred the NT-01. Most people run R888's because they work better on the street (notably rain). But the shortcomings of the R888 are evident by the fact that Toyo has re-released the RA-1. After I use up the 888's I may consider the re-released RA1's.

So what am I saying ... the Nitos are a better dedicated track tire.

Your right I've seen 2 get upside down (WRX & Shelby GT) and the other was a Terminator that crunched both ends.

    Fun, fun...

Agreed, elevation change would be fun This track is about 3 miles from my house and we race on it 3-4 times a year. I'll take it. The other two tracks at Firebird International Raceway are relatively flat also but we have some variety as we rotate amongst them throughout the year. And there's INDE Motorsports Ranch twice each year.

The BOSS 302 is killer. With the minimal mods that AZ did, it definitely holds it's own...

Great video. Your car looks and sounds nice. The Vette seemed very twitchy. What set up were you using to record the session?

Im suprised to hear this since its the exact opposite of my experience and many others.

That the NT01 has a more square carcass which leads to stability that many prefer over the rounded R888. I see more NT01s at the track than R888 and the 01 has been better in the rain and with heat cycles over the 888 as well as overall streetability. Like the RA1, the NT01 maintains its grip down to cords. It alsi finished 2nd overall abd first in the E0 class in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

These tire discussions are very interesting to me as i am not happy with the Hancooks on my car now. As of today I have one Steeda Ultralight purchased at a deal and am looking for 3 more. If I can get them I plan on buying a set of NT01's for the track only. If I cannot come up with the extra wheels, my plan is to buy NT05s for both street and track. Give me some feed back on my plan, please.

    What hankooks?

Is your car a dd or just to and from the track? Many drive their NT01s to the track. If its more street oriented, check out the Dunlop StarSpec.

I love my 888's. With the hp and torque my car is putting down, they worked perfect at the drag strip. I just heated them up as if they were drag tires. They took all the torque with out breaking loose. I was shifting at 6K and they stuck. One comment made by the guy who videoed the drag day was "Look at Greg, getting down the track with out drama ... as if he is driving on the highway" That was a 13.1. If anyone is interested in great deals on tires I recommend Radial tire in MD. If you decide to go there the best is to talk directly to the owner. PM me and I will give you his info.

PS - It looks like the RA1's are coming back too. Not sure if they are in the sizes we need .. but something to look for.

I say go with the 888's for both track and street. You are not daily driving your car like me .. so they will be ok. I read one article that they would last 9,000 miles in everyday driving. I was going to go the Steeda ultra lights .. they are cheep ... but not light. Your Trak Pak rims are lighter I am sure.

I would love to have another set of TP wheels but bought one ultralight for $60 so figured I could not lose as it is worth $35 at the scrapyard! The Proxies look good, probably going to be the cheapest set come May 1 between the Nitto and Toyo.

The Ultra lites 18x9.5 and Stage 3/Trakpak FORGED 18x10 wheels both weigh in at 27lbs

For comparison the CAST Roush 18x10's weigh in at 32lbs (I have a set of 4 in NEW condition FOR SALE or TRADE for Steeda Ultra lites)

V12s are a great street tire, but if you're getting dedicated track wheels then get yourself a set of NT01s in 275/40/18 (or 275/35) and it's rock & roll time!

I run a Flip HD camera in the car (cheap refurbished buy) and get the data with the TrackMaster application for my android phone. I have a GPS beacon that operates at 10hz to gather speed and position data and send it to the phone.

I have a GoPro and an iPhone. Will something like that work with my set up?
