Unhappy Need technical info on 5.0L 3 piece intake

I have a couple of the Roush 3 piece intakes for the 5.0L engine and am trying to find out something about them, like where HP and torque peaks are, airflow, etc.

Also looking for any factual information on their design and any stories from users, internal or external.

These are fasinating intakes but it's impossible to find any information on them. It appears to be designed to provide some resonance tuning, but I have no way or resources to determine at what point. Anyone have any old tech papers or anything?

Thanks, John

I have the intake kit on my car, but the info I have I already sent to you. I haven't seen any hardcore facts or figures on airflow and other parameters. All I know is that it makes the car faster!

Could you use the intake on a 96+ 4.6, not just the 5.0?

Small Fords only. It can fit 351W w/ intake adapter plates and some minor mods.

Sorry, OLD small block fords. I don't know of they consider the 4.6 a small block, I always hear it as mod motor or modular motor. There is a definite lack of intakes for a 4.6L. The only ones I know of are Reichart and the FRPP Bullitt.

Well then I just might have to look in to the Bullitt, unless the Cobra motor comes first, well have to see.

Thought I would add a couple more questions for those with the Intake.

Was a Strut Tower Brace ever made to fit with this intake?

How does it perform when combined with aftermarket heads, cam etc. I have heard of some tuning issues.

Does anyone have a larger MAF on their intake? and if so which one has a flange?

I want to go with Roller Rockers but am finding it difficult to get a straight answer as to which ones fit under stock rocker covers. Preference would be stud mount for aftermarket heads, anyone know what fits?

Any help is appreciated

Richard.

1. No strut tower brace that I know of.
2. Up to 120 hp with ported heads.
3. Pro-M flanged meter made a big difference. I sent them the air box so they could flow it all together. I had to cut 1/2" off the end of the meter so it would fit.
4. Crane or FRPP 1.7 Cobra rockers fit w/o any problems. Of course this is just the bolt down style. The stud mounts may not work.

More info... It really likes fuel pressure and timing. I am runnning a 190lph / 24 lbs. / AFPR. I have FP set at 46 psi. Any lower and it falls on it's face. I also reccomend the FRPP SVO Extender. It will need to be modified by Sam Guido to fit the Cobra computer that comes in that kit. You can get the extender from Diversified Products and have them send it to Sam to be modified. This will take up alot of the shortcomings powerwise in the 1994 Cobra computer. It also allows a/f tuning and rev limit removal in addition to timing advance.

Has anyone got aftermarket headers with their intakes?

I have BBK's and was wondering what you did to make your EGR functional as the tube supplied will not fit.

Thanks

Richard

Really?

I would think the Roush tube is made to fit a stock 94/95 EGR setup. I had to bend my stock tube a tiny bit to fit my FMS headers.

Now if you are running it on a 90 as your sig. says that may be a different matter. I am not familiar with a Fox setup although I have a stock intake setup somewhere around here.

I also have a Super Ford article with a couple of pics of a Fox with the intake, also this link -

Yeah I was going to post a that link to Jim Frank's site.

He was able to squeeze out 343.5 HP / 350.4 Tq from one of his dyno runs.

For some reason I just love this shot.

The BBK headers put the EGR port in a different place, the headers came with a new pipe to fit the stock intake.

Anyone got any ideas, I don't really want to spend $300 on a chip just to disable the EGR so I can remove it.

Thanks Richard.

You can try taking the EGR off but leave it electrically connected. Some have done this on SN95's to keep it from posting a code.

Otherwise you are just gonna have to make your own setup I'd say. I'll look and see if the are using EGR on the Fox in Super Ford. That was back in 98.

I don't run an EGR so I used a Moroso fuel pump block off plate for a 351M, which fits the Roush intake EGR opening perfect.
I do use a cutom chip that I had the EGR turned off with.

Just to clarify I was running a complete stock 100K long block when the car made 343RWHP. With the stock intake the car made 313, so the Roush intake alone made over 30RWHP increase.

I now have AFR 185 heads and a Comp 270 cam. The last dyno run the car made 425RWHP. The peak HP and Torque crossed each other so the Powerdyne is running out of air.
I think If I bolted on a Vortech S-Trim the car would make another 40-60RWHP.
