Coolant

I flushed the radiator and put in new coolant. Now the coolant light is on. It's full and clean and never came on before. It goes on after driving for a little while. The temp gauge is just slightly below half. Is that too high, or is that where it should be? Is it possible to have to much coolant in the system. It's right to the top in the reservoir. I think I might drain a little out tomorrow. Has any one else encountered this? What should I do?
I'm to afraid to drive it I don't want to overheat it.

I had something similar on an RX-7. In that instance the little sensor that plugs into the radaitor was grounding out so I adjusted it back into position and the problem went away. Good luck

You may need to burp this system........What I mean by this is when you filled the system up with new coolant you trapped air inside it.

Take the resevoir cap off and start the car let idle for a few minutes then replace cap and see how it is after that.
Also the coolant should be roughly 1" from the top you should have a level indicator on the drivers side of resevoir.

Thanks

I knew you guys would have some suggestions. I’m going out to the garage right now to drain a little out since it’s overfull then burp it. I think it should work. I hope it does.

CRAP

I just twisted the nylon nut off tightening it back up after a drained a little coolant. I must have only applied 5 lbs of torque. I done now for memorial day weekend. How do I fix this new problem? I can't see crap because it's to low to get my head underneath. Now I have to jack it up and see how I can fix it. No parts departments are open now until Tuesday WTF.

Ok cool this is why we buy Fords. They think things out. Inside that nylon drain plug you can plug in a allen wrench. No leaks right now I let it run for a few minutes with the cap off. Screwed it back on and let it warm up to running temp. Everything looks good. Time to enjoy the BBQ down the road. I should be able to back out the broken drain plug with the allen wrench and replace it when on Tuesday.

Thanks Goose and MLN385.
