Exclamation Roush Short Throw Shifter Rattle Fixed!

Well, after several trips under my 06, I finally got the rattle fixed on my Roush short throw shifter. It can ALL be done from the drivers seat.

The core of the issue is that too much vibration was being transferred to the shifter body and stick. By doing the following, this almost totally eliminates this. I also had some veritcal play in the shifter, and this was the cause of the rattle.

Remove the shifter boot and dust cover. I then cut down the shock abosorber, HELP! part # 31017. I then had another grommet with a cone shaped top. I superglued them together and then made one cut length ways.

Make sure that the new piece wraps completely around the shifter stick. I used some electrical tape to ensure that it would split apart.

Just to make sure, I used the some of the other grommets I had bought, and placed then in the front and back of the shifter body, in between the alloy runner and the floorpan. The fit should be real snug, and make sure to push them far enough in to allow for space for the dust boot.

I tested this out and it work great.

Hope this help someone else out there with the same issue.

This is my first post, I'll add on a fancy sig later.

take care

Hey welcome and glad to hear of a solution to the rattle.

The one thing I can ask for is some pictures of the work you did and the parts you used. It may seem trivial, but some terms mean many things to many people and it would help remove any ambiguity....

Otherwise, great job....

Looking forward to some pics of the fix and of the car too.....

I've got this same problem. Thanks for posting your solution. Could you please post photos of how you did it? I was just at a local Ford dealership hoping they would solve it but they have to order a part from Roush. The technician went on to say that the part they are ordering might not even fix it as it is for their 427R. I don't see why it wouldn't as it is the same shifter.
