Really P.O.'d

I just had to get this off my chest (plus I've been drinking a little) I think that the car safety warranty should have a lifetime warranty. It's a safety issue!! It shouldn't matter how many miles are on it. Wouldn't you think that car manufacturers would want the owners of their vehicles to be safe for the lifetime of the car?? My '02 has 50,720 miles on it. I took it to the dealership yesterday to have my seatbelt looked at because it won't retract. I unstrap it and it just hangs there. They want to charge me $250.00!!!!!!!!! They said my safety warranty ran out at 50,000 miles. What the f....??????????? I pretty much told them to piss up a rope.

All mustang seat belts do the same after a while. I know it sucks. Maybe you could just buy it and put it on yourself.

Espeically if they've stopped you from going through the windshield at least once.

Well I just replaced my seatbelt the other day. Cost was around $50 through a person who offers forum members ford parts at 10% over cost. You need a t-50 torx bit to unbolt the seat belt. Then you have to remove most of the panels on which ever side of the car needs the new seat belt. I believe it is easier if you also remove the back seat. Not that hard at all just have to be careful when removing the panels to ensure you don't break some of the plastic parts that hold them on. If you want I can spend some time in my car and walk you through the process step by step. I might also be able to get pictures.

I will say that it is soooo much nicer now that my seat belt actually retracts now.

Glad I didn't have a seatbelt on for this ride. I needed to be thrown clear.

Will not drive a car without one.

Did you just get a new belt retractor, or a different one. I ask cause isnt gonna happen again?

Well I called up the person who gets all of the members over at Modularfords.com the deal on ford parts a call and asked for a new driver side seat belt. He asked for a VIN and that was that. Also ordered 02 senors at the same time. The seat belt comes as a whole unit. Retractor, belt, and belt hanger all ready to go in. From what I understand they had a service bulletin about the seat belts not retracting. I believe the newer units did not have the same problem though. So I assume they were redesigned a little bit so the problem would not reoccur. Not 100% sure about that but you could call a Ford dealership and ask them. Or better yet go to this link and you can call the dealership that is offering the deal. They are pretty helpful from what I have experienced. I also imagine you could get the same deal.
