If the rattle was there "before" the addition of the Cobra Bob gasket... I'd have to agree with you!
This particular rattle only occured after the gasket! Which is why I find this "odd".... so many have recommended this gasket to remedy this exact thing! I did some things differently.. i've just yet to drive it and see if it worked! Cheers nem

The other rattles may have masked the rattle you have now. Ford placed rubber bushings on the shift handle and heavy jute carpet backing around the shifter and handle to isolate you from the noises and rattles. When you shift to a "performance shifter" all those comforts are gone. Your shifter handle has metal to metal contact all the way through to your transmission and you will always have mechanical harmonics with any metal to metal movement/vibration. It's the sacrifice you make for high performance man.
Cobra Bob's gaskets were maily meant to solve fluid leakage problems in herent to shifter swaps, not necessarily for shifter noise. now they do sell a Lincoln Town Car...... ![]()

I guess you'd have to be there to understand! This rattle was NOT masked... nor am I imagining things! I KNOW where that rattle is... just shocked that it appreared only after the CB's gasket was installed! BTW.. its the handle and knob... not anywhere below that!
I find it interesting that your the first person that has said anything about CB's gaskets solving fluid leaks... the only reason I purchased them was on the recommendation that it fixed rattling in these STS! I completely understand differences between stock and aftermarket... and the few sacrifices that come with aftermarket as for the Lincoln town car.... you can just keep that idea to your self... never gonna happen! Cheers and thanks for the opinions...... I'll fix this on my own accord! Peace Nem

Straight from Cobra Bobs own website:
Many people blame increased noise on their shifter. But actually noise is generated from the transmission and moves through the shifter (especially billet shifters) into the cabin. This gear noise or gear whine is, unfortunately, normal. Insufficient noise isolation material used with aftermarket shifters (and even the stock shifter) is the culprit. The rather thin, irregular bead of silicon sealer normally used on the bottom of the shifter base serves more as a sealer and isn't really meant to be a noise isolator. The only real noise isolator is the thick rubber gasket on the shifter handle. This rubber gasket isolates some of the normal gear noise emanating from the transmission, but the lack of a shifter plate gasket still allows a level of noise to enter the cabin from the transmission. And when the shifter handle rubber gasket is removed as it is with most aftermarket shifters, the noise problem worsens.

Hey Nem, I understand what you're saying. I've heard it in other people's cars before. However mine doesn't do this. I have a Pro-5.0 shifter, though. The only thing that comes through mine is heat. Nothing that will burn you. The shifter does get pretty warm sometimes, though. It just depends on how I'm driving.

Ive got some packing foam.. but the nocies is above the outside boot! The handle and the Knob are the culprits! I took the handle off and added a butt load thread lock and and made sure the bolts were nice and tight!
I'm not too sure the thread lock will do much for rattles thought! At least it wont make itself loose! As always thanks for the info! cheers nemi
