E-brake wont lock?

Anyone had any problems with there E-brake? Mine just out of the blue wont lock up, in the up position? If you hold it up it will hold the car. i thought the cable might of broke but i removed the center console and its fine

The spring that keeps the cog thingy tight might be broken, or something is lodged in the teeth in your console.

I had a 05 GT and the E-brake tooth that catches on the gear broke off and the E-brake handle had to be replaced and that was after 10 months of ownership.
