Square exhaust tips

Who has found the roush square exhaust tips suck ass? My chrome constantly peels. On my second set, soon to be third. This must be why the warrant on the tips is only 12 months. Too bad, they really set the car apart.

I haven't noticed mine peeling. I need to clean a little soot off of them this weekend. I'll check and see then. Where are they peeling at? Do you have a pic?

The chrome plating is only on the edge of the tips, it just flakes clean off leaving bare aluminum. I'm not talking about little flecks, I mean 3/4 inch long pieces flake off. Repeatedly.

Wow, look at this. My tips are alum with chrome plating only on the exposed edge as shown on the left. The right pic from the Roush sight shows this full stainless one as the tip for the mustang. Have the tips been improved?

I was told the stainless tips come on the stage 3! Mine peeled on my stage 1 and my dealer got me the stainless ones!! I love them!! They even say "ROUSH" on them that can be seen when mounted on the car.

Just to confirm what some others have already mentioned, Roush has changed the tips, due to the peeling issues. The Roush dealer I work for has gotten several sets replaced by Roush under warranty, and Roush has been very good about replacing them. The new tips are polished stainless, and are being sent to replace the tips on all Stages, not just Stage 3's, which were the only ones to have the chrome plated tips, as I recall.

Roush isn't perfect, but no company is. However, they are fairly quick about changing their product once they recognize a problem. I've seen a similar chrome plate flaking issue on their Stage 3 wheels with the '06 cars where the chrome was flaking off in the bolt hole recesses. They changed the chrome plating on the '07 and '08 cars so that the bolt hole recesses and the inside of the wheels are no longer chrome plated to solve that problem, hopefully.

If you have an issue with your Roush car, contact your dealer. If they don't, or aren't willing to help you get the problem covered under warranty, contact Roush directly at 1-800-59-Roush. As long as your car is still under the 3-year, 36,000-mile Roush warranty, any defect in materials like these should be covered.

I believe this is the same reason they went from chrome to steel tips on the 99-04 as well.

Got a replacement set from Stage3 late last year after Roush switched vendors. Original set sucked. My new set is still alum with chrome plating only on the exposed edge.

Mine have done the same thing. Took them off a few weeks ago, took a razor blade to them to scrape all that mess off! Polished them up and they look pretty good. I have just a few months left on my Roush Warranty which means one more trip to the dealer for an 'inspection', I'll have to mention this little problem and see if I can get them switched out. I love the look of the ones on our 08 Blackjack... the very ends of them are rounded which seem to be more finished where the ones on the 05 are squared off. They really stand out!

I'm about the run out of Roush warreny but my tips are not peeling.Would they change them later cause I really dont get the car that dirty. Its see's mostly sunny skies and a sudden cloud burst but not much other then that.
Maybe I'll call Roush and see what they will do.Anyone else at this point on their Roush?

Mine aren't peeling but then again, I don't take mine out in bad weather either. They are hell to get too to clean however because they are so close to the rear valence.

Tips!

I have a 04 stage 3 and I too have had the same problem, until 3 days ago! I just took a piece of 400 Grit sandpaper and sanded all the clear coat off the edges of the tips. Then purchased a can of metal polish(can of swab), and went to town on them.......now they are shiny again and will never have to worry about it again! So for you owners who dont have the warranty coverage option like myself.......than try this, its cheap and worked out great, Stang 3.

You wouldn't have the chrome tips though. You have the cast. The chrome ones were on the 2001 and earlier models.

What you did was make polished metal. With no clear, you will have to continuously polish them to keep them that way. Still, great job though. I am still considering taking mine off and painting them.

My 2007 Stage 3 tips were fine when I traded the car in earlier this week. The car was about 18 months old.
