Tire wear

I was just wondeing if anyone is having any issues with tire wear due to the negative camber on the roush stang. I recently brought my 07 427 R to the dealer, and they were concerned about alignment issues; i had the alignment checked, and found that the camber is at -1.6 , both sides. They claim this is not ajustable, and is the reason for the wear.I was also told this negative number is what helps contribute to the better handling of the Roush. I am willing to deal with the tire wear, but dont want it to damage the front end . Any imput is greatly appreciated. PS I love this car

It won't damage your front end...but I'd add the Maximum Motorsports or Steeda Caster Camber plates & get all the adjustability you need. Then unless I was going to run the car on the track a lot set the specs for good tire wear...

First though do a search on here & get the factory Roush alignment specs & see if you are in spec...the agressive Roush camber specs have been know to wear out tires but not in all cases.

There are many threads / posts on this issue if you do a search. I have not noted any issues with my 427 but have low mileage and have already rotated more than once. I even posted a thread myself after becoming concerned after reading so much about this issue on fnsweet.

Yes, it is an issue on these cars. I believe one of the keys is frequent criss-cross rotation. My recommendation would be to read all the info you can find on this forum. There are some really smart and experienced people here. If you believe your car needs to be aligned you can purchase some camber bolts for 30 or 40 dollars which will allow proper adjustment.

I have noted that with the lowered roush front end, it is difficult to see the inside half of the front tires when wheels are relatively straight. I think for those who put a considerable amount of miles on their Roushes, they can really wear that inside before they even realize it. Lucky for me I began to read about this issue right after I got mine and have been watching very closely and rotating every 2000 miles. Nothing noticeable yet.

Good Luck.

Glad to hear you are loving your 427R!!!

I have recently been bitten by the tire wear issue as well. Here's the most recent thread that I resurrected when I discovered the uneven wear pattern. There are some great links on page 4 to camber bolts, etc. My bolts should be here any day now and I will update this ongoing thread with any additional info:
Tire Wear

Definitely keep an eye on your tires if you take no action at this time.

I'm not so sure about that as they are uni-directional tires.

Hey Redfire,

Always great to talk with another 427 owner. As to your question about the tires being directional. Of Course, you are right. I get questioned on this from time to time.

Most directional tires are so for the removal of water from under the tire. Tread direction is all that makes them directional. I have been criss crossing directional tires for many years with no negative effects. Common sense would dictate that if you have the rotation the wrong way to take it easy in the wet on the highway. Should make no difference on local city streets.

Not an issue on my 427 as it does not get driven on wet streets.

Yeah, I guess you have a point there. The only water my car sees is when I give her her weekly bath.
