More Changes in NASCAR?
If the manufacturers get their way the answer is yes! Imagine that; nASCAR with fuel injection and dual overhead cams!

I vote for changing the entire series up and getting rid of the COT. I like the idea of doing the "Race on Sunday, Buy on Monday" philosophy. I wouldn't mind seeing a Mustang up against a Camaro and Challenger on the track.

All right Detriot!!!! As a Nascar fan you gotta love this. The coalition of manufacturers are pushing for some of the same changes Nascar fans have been clamouring for.
Get rid of the COT and get the real real hot-rods on the track in their stock bodies more or less. Shorter season and reduce the doubled up events, I don't need or want to see two Pocono, two Louden, two Martinsville, two Phoenix, etc. Heck I would rather see the series at a road course in Mexico or Canada than watch a second race at those tracks. February to November is a long season. End it when football starts in September. I think the manufacturers are completely justified in the position they are taking. Why invest a lot of BIG money in a sport that makes all their cars look like the same crap. Times are tough and they need to save money and get more in return for it. |

there was a series that was going to race mustangs, camaros, and vipers against each other. i think aj foyt was the head of it. it never got off the ground. would be nice to see.
nascar does nothing for me anymore.

Let's get the old SCCA Trans Am series from the late 60's up and running again. Those were real factory pony race cars.

To me all these ideas seem like the right way to go. I do prefer the Road coarses, and short tracks over the Speedways. I HATE the Daytona, Talladega races with the plates and have to have a "push". racing is about set-up and driver, not who pushes you.
I haven't watched NASCAR for a while but did watch DP and some Le Mans racing this weekend. I thought the COT was stupid on the fact that all the cars look the same. let them be different in the front, As long as the heidth is the same the look doesn't matter for safety. I have to agree with the Nation Wide series as well. I agree with Cup driver's running a few races in the Nation Wide series but not for points. It's good for the rookies to run with the pros a few times and get some learning in there. Just not the whole season and for wins, (even if it is Carl Edwards who is one of my favs) Bottom line is if the Big Three aren't on board, then maybe honda and some european manufacturers will join up and the big three can move on. how about a new series, or bring back an old, that does use the Pony cars.

The ironic part of that entire "plan" is that the big 3 already have all those bullet point items in series such as the ALMS, Speed World Challenge and on a more limited scale in Grand American. Why ask NASCAR to change when those items already exist? NASCAR fans don't want to see sports cars or they would watch sports car racing. Kind of silly to ask for something you already have.

Good find Tony. Look at the big picture guys. If those cars exist in other venues then why not have the same cars capable of running in all the venues? The car makers are tired of putting out money for a car that doesn't look anything like what they sell. NASCAR has been running amuck by telling people what they are going to see instead of asking what would you like to see. They have been heading down that buy it from us spec racer path for far to long. If they want to "reduce team expences", keep the makers involved and bring back a lot of old fans then start running the old "style" of racing. Stock bodied cars with STOCK configuration. NASCAR is being pressured and they better start to listen. I could see the big three starting their own series and renting the weed infested tracks, from lack of use, that NASCAR can't get spectators to.
