Those are all valid questions, but one you didn't bring up is the possibility of warranty problems, depending on the dealership's willingness to work around or overlook modded car issues. From what I have read, some are better about it than others, and you are about to pay a lot for a Roush warranty.....

I went with single chambered flows and kept the cats where they are, it is plenty loud!! I'm not sure how it will effect the tune, I'm am only NA no SC. But I wouldn't think it would effect anything, but don't hold me to it.

These are questions that always seem to arise. Roush is never going to tell you to put on a O/R pipe or do any modifications.
The only way your going to know if it makes a difference, Take the car and have it dyno'd, do you mods and have it dyno'd again, this way you can see where all your readings are , and know for sure. |
|
||||
|
I can see the dyno telling me about the power part, which would obviously be nice, but I want the sound as well.
I am not a fan of Flowmaster, but I guess I could go with magnaflow, Bassani, or Borla as well. My fear is that the muffler shop will screw up my car. I can do the x-pipe myself, I don't know about the mufflers. I guess I could just clamp them on, which the Roush ones might be. I am concerned about warranty, but with all the problems that I have had in getting this car I think they will work with me, should the need arise. See my Roush Sucks... heres why post for that scoop. It should really say, Roush shipping sucks... Heres why because I know the cars are good.

An o/r h pipe will definately change the sound of the stock roush mufflers, and if you don't want to worry about the tune you can just get MIL eliminators.
Here is a video of my car with the O/R H. Video is a little long because I had to wait for the oncoming car to pass through. http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...F126D362FC.htm

I can't find it right now, but I think I recall one of the tech articles here mentioning that the O2 sensors are an integral part of the tune, and MIL eliminators would have a detrimental effect on performance. Check it out and see what you can find...

spike54 changed all his exhaust and then went back after moving to Cali. Send him a PM for some advice.

First mod I did after buying the car brand new was having a shop install an offroad cat-less X-pipe, 40 series Flows and MIL eliminators. The install was great, and I absolutely loved the new sound. WAY LOUD! The sound was really a top priority and in the process I may have gained a few ponies. The install was done professionally and the guy told me if I ever get a check engine light.....that I was to disconnect the battery. This did happen once the day after the install......and sure enough I disconnected the battery and problem solved. ....and to this day I have not had a single check engine light since then. .....the only compromise I think was the fact that peak torque was inevitably affected and didn't come on until about 4K Revs instead of 3K Revs as listed on the Roush spec sheet. But that's what happens when you open up the exhaust and decrease back-pressure. Then.....before moving to CA.....I opted to install Cats on my ride for fear of the California Exhaust Nazis with their random spot checks and sneaky mirrors I had heard so much about in other threads on this forum. Had the cats installed in FL before I left. MIL eliminators still functioning on the car with the cats back on.....No problems whatsoever regarding the change back.....as there shouldn't be right?. .....I did notice my torque change again.....swinging back in favor of lower RPM's to get there. Yeee-Haw.....love the low end grunt. .....Sound was dimished a little bit....well, quite a bit......not as narly at idle, not as get outta my way loud when at speed either......but it's loud enough for me I suppose when I get on it. ....On the warranty issue.....I had a great experience with Ford here in Cali after I got here roughly 5-6 weeks ago. Although I did alter my Roush vehicle (exhaust, CAI, & pulley).....Ken Grody Ford in Buena Park, CA fixed my car under the Ford 3 year/36,000 mile warranty..... .....actually did this work about 2 weeks before my 3-year warranty would expire......whew..... they replaced my leaky front engine cover gaskets (9.4 man-hours to replace.....removing all F.E.A.D.) ....new oil and filter .....they also fixed my power-steering fluid leak, did a caster, camber, toe-in check and an alignment.......all for the price of $0 to me. SO all in all......I have had a good experience concerning the upgraded exhaust on the Roush.......and not to mention excellent follow-thru on the Ford warranty.....

The purpose of MIL's is to fool the computer into thinking that the rear 02's are fine. Using MIL's will not effect the tune in any way.

My plan is to keep the cats on... After looking at the Exhaust now that I have the car, the cats don't seem to bad. Not like the 98 GT I have as well that had two cats and the resonator things.
I think that I am just going to look at getting mufflers for it to avoid the MIL and ECU stuff. Plus the stock H-pipe on the car looks like it works pretty well. I just need to get the sound out of it. Thanks for all the info...

What mufflers (other then flows) will work with the Roush tips on this car?
I have a personal issue with flowmasters and will not install them on anything I own. The Borla sound like a good option.

I have a Bassani o/r x-pipe on my car with the Roush bullet straight thru o/r mufflers. since there is only 1 downstream o2 sensor, all I had to do was install an o2 extension not an MIL eliminator. The check engine light never came on. It is obnoxiously loud. But, I always get comments that it sounds better than any 05+ that anyone has heard.
