26. Why don't Vortech superchargers need an Aftercooler or an intercooler? Vortech Engineering, LLC has conducted extensive testing of most intercoolers/aftercoolers currently on the market. Test results indicate that for street driven purposes below 8-9 PSIG, installing an aftercooler has marginal effects when using a Vortech supercharger (due to the high efficiency of the supercharger). Nearly all of the intercoolers/aftercoolers available on the market have poor effectiveness and actually can cause parasitic losses equal to or greater than the power gained by installing a intercooler/aftercooler. Vortech has developed systems which are substantially more effective at lowering discharge temperatures without causing driveability problems and pressure drops thru the cooling core and ducting.

Interesting, but I still wouldn't ever do it on my car.
Vortech may say it's safe, but if you ever want to up the boost, it's BOOM time when you can't cool the hot ass air coming out of that hair dryer. Detonation isn't a good friend, and it's common in uncooled P/A engines. In reality, with my Vortech w/ aftercooler, I make more than most people without an aftercooler because of the nice cold air that gets dumped into the intake. Sure, it robs some of the exiting air pressure from the blower but the resulting cooler air actually builds more power and ends up giving me right at 10PSI. This was when it was all stock. It sounds like a great price installed, I just don't know if I would do it without an "insurance policy." |

Thanks for the input Markass, I appreciate it
. I'm clueless about this subject, obviously. I called MRT today and it is the NON intercooled unit. They supply the supercharger, fuel pump, injectors and tuner (SCT is their preference over Vortech using DiabloSport). I also called Vortech and asked them about not needing an intercooler. The tech said that with 8lbs boost and a conservative tune, there should never be a problem. Since I have a catted x-pipe and roush offroad axle back I will have to have a custom tune done. Vortech asked who I was going to have do the work, and when I said MRT, the guy said they are great and that Vortech has used some of MRT's fuel delivery parts for there test cars, and that they (MRT) definitely know what they are doing. Plus, if I ever decide to get really nuts and go for more boost, I can add the intercooler later they said. So, if I go with a polished unit ($250), dyno tune ($300) and tax ($277) I should be out the door for $4888.

I swear I have coolest wife in the world! We were talking about the Vortech last night and she asked me, is that what you really want to do to the car? I said I would rather go with the Roushcharger or another roots type, like the Whipple. They may cost a little more but they are intercooled, and roots type s.c.'s rock. She told me to wait until spring and use my tax return and bonus to get the Roushcharger or Whipple then.
To be continued.....

you can get the base Whipple(black) for $4600, good for 415RWHP (488HP) and do the installation yourself, you can add the intercooler later and bump up the boost for 475RHWP. Personally I think the Whipple supplied software is much safer and superior to Vortech/Procharger, software is so well engineered that it will be used on all 2008 GT500s. Keep us updated.
