Check Engine Light

HERE'S THE DEAL MY GF MADE AN APPOINMENT TO TAKE HER CAR IN FOR SERVICE. SEEMS IF SHE LETS HER CAR SIT FOR 2DAYS OR MORE ON START-UP A PUFF OF BLUE SMOKE COMES OUT. THIS IS A (ROUSHCHAREGED) 06GTVERT WITH 25,000 MILES ON IT. THE SERVICE WRITER ASKED WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS WHEN SHE CALLED FOR THE APPOINTMENT SHE SAID LOOKS LIKE VALVE GUIDES ARE WORN ...HE SAID THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME IF IT WAS VALVE GUIDES  DOSE THIS SOUND LIKE BS TO YOU

First off, locate your CAPS LOCK button, and turn it off!

Secondly, it's the battery. Common problem. Replace that thing and you're good to go.
I don't think the CEL would come on if the valve guides were worn....Don't see why they would, but what do I know.

It's under warranty, let them deal with it.

firstoff, this is a car site not english 101. second off i never said the check engine light was on... only that the service advisor had suggested it would come on if the valve giudes were bad. i thought that suggestion by the service advisor that the check engine would be on was bullsh*t. i was asking informed car owners if they'ed had a similar problem. and if the check engine light had come "on". but thanks for the "english lesson".

If you're going to post, and not piss people off, take the caps lock off.... simple as that. If I hadn't said it, 6 other people would have. Please understand that if you want informed car owners to help you, you must wite in such a way that it can 1)be read 2)doesn't annoy everyone who reads it.

Now that we're past that, I never said the CEL was on. I said I don't think worn valve guides would cause a CEL. So we're now dealing with english and reading 101. Basically, I was disagreeing with the hypothesis your service advisor came up with.

An informed car owner gave you the answer, twice now. Replace the battery. Search the forums, and you'll find that other informed car owners have had this very problem, quite frequently.

If the valve Guides were bad you would also blow blue smoke on acceleration.
Follow her and ck it out.
On occaision my car will blow a little white smoke on startup, is excess fuel, Roush told me it is the nature of the beast.

I don't know about these new fangled engines but in the old days, black smoke indicated unburnt fuel (to rich)...

White smoke comes from a lean condition, black from rich, is how I remember it.

If it sits for a few days, a small puff is normal. However, the battery has been a point of concern for some and a replacement cured it.

In the old days we had leaded fuel, was red remember, would burn black because of the lead content, not true today.

The batts not going to do anything for the blue smoke, you know that.
The white smoke is a combo of fuel and condensate in the exhaust system from sitting after a few days.
Got blue smoke, you got a problem, take it to the dealer, is still under warranty.

+1.... Blue smoke = oil in the combustion chamber. Usually not good...

Would the smoke have any odor to it, like rich smelling?
Mine blows whitish - blueish smoke after sitting for a 2 or more days when cold out, right after startup. Smells like a rich condition but it is mostly blueish. It turns white almost instantaneously after the first initial "VROOM" after turning the key..
Any thoughts on that?
Calling the dealer after the new year about it..see what they say
Thanks
EP

This will sound weird but don't worry about it. It's endemic of Mod motors to smoke on start up every once in a while. I've had a 2V, two 3Vs, and a 4V and all 4 of them did it to some extent. The 03 Cobra was the worst but both of my 3Vs have done it every once in a while.

Exactly. It's normal for it to happen especially if it sits for a couple days or more.

Now, if you lose some cranking power, and get smoke, that's the battery. Cranks longer and dumps more fuel in, then it starts really rich.

As long as it doesn't CONTINUE to smoke after the initial startup, you're good.

this is exactly what happens, a small puff of blue then whitish and goes away. i always thought any blue meant oil in the combustion chamber. and thats "bad"!
