Oil Seperator, Yes or No?

I'm hearing on some other mustang forums that it might not be a bad idea to add an oil sperator to the SC cars. I'm being told that the NA car owners are starting to add them and they definnately need to be considered on the SC's. Anyone with more technical knowledge than I have some feedback on this? My thinking is if Roush believed it was needed, it would have been added.

I see no reason not to, N/A or S/C; I just see more reason to on S/C'd Stangs.

i have done this, you'll be surprised how much oil you collect in the seperator. its a $20 mod and takes 30min, worth it.

I have an 01 and put a filter on mine.

Zero oil in the intake after 1000 miles. Prior to that there would have been a fairly significant amount.

I run it on my cobra. I empty the can every month or so. It has never gone past half way full.
i added it due to the oil i saw in the intake, since ive installed it no oil in the intake.

Interesting and still unsure of it being needed or not. Looked at the threads Roushinator listed and most of them are at least 2 or more years old, so not much help for the 07 and 08 models. Spoke to my tuner this week and he says it would be advisable if I was running more more boost, but with what the 427's are running, even with the upgraded pulley, he says its not really needed.

The principles are the same for any year model.

seriously...it'll cost around $30 for the parts...put it on and just see..but I guarantee once you drive it and see how much oil collects in it you will see the need for it.

I think I am going to do this on my car, seems like a definite worthwhile modification! I will probably due this to my truck too, couldn't hurt!

Question: What/where does all of that oil come from? Blow-by? Can't remember how the whole PCV system works...

I have a 94 Super Coupe that makes a lot more boost than my Roush. It has almost 100 K on it and runs just like it did new (no sperator). I can't see that a sperator would hurt but not sure it is needed.
Some of the oil is from blow by and some is just oil vapor/mist from the oilling of hot parts.

I was looking around last night and saw some stuff that basically said these are not worthwhile on NA cars. Any input/opinions?

I ended up putting both separators on the Bronco, since it is actually being driven right now and needed them. I will definitely keep that in mind guys since I will still need one for the Roush when the time comes!!!

Well I tried a little test these past two weeks by running breathers on my Cobra and I got nothing but oil everywhere. I also had a problem and not sure if its related, but twice the lid on the intercooler overflow tank has blown off during hard accelleration and after an extended drive. I put the factory crap back on and I'll see if it makes a difference with the intercooler. Yes the pump is running.

uM.
This has always happened.
Pressure builds with heat and all that churning around in the block. Has to vent somewhere. We use a catch tank on the A/Sedan car. Not really an issue but better in a catch tank than on the track.
Rockers rocking, push rods pushing or cams camming, valves..uh.. valving. Lots of oil mist gets pressurized and out the pcv valve it goes.
For street cars, unless you DO have bad valves, rings, you shouldn't be building a lot of pressure in there.
Still, can't hurt.

I hear that some oil in the intake is good for superchargers. It helps with a little lubrication.

After reading much on this subject I decided to do a little test. About this time last year with less than 1500 miles on my 427 I removed the PVC tube which attaches to the back side of the S/C. I rolled up a paper towel into a tube shape and inserted it into the PVC intake on the S/C. Rotated about a dozen times and then slowly removed. I was very surprised at how much oil had saturated that paper towel. At that point I knew I wanted one. Pretty easy to install although I did a little more than the 20 dollar version.
