Mobil 1 Vs. Motorcraft Synthetic??

My car goes in tomorrow for the first oil change. First, is it okay to go with synthetic before it's really broken in? I was going to go with Mobil 1 or Royal Purple, but the dealer says Ford's full synthetic is just as good. Any thoughts?

At the first oil change it is OK. That is when it is recommended you wait to switch over. As for your second question, I like and use all Royal Purple products and American Muscle carries the oil at a better price (w/forum discount and free shipping) than anywhere else I have found. I pick up the Motorcraft oil filter from Wally World because it is only about $3 there. From there, the dealership does the oil change for about $10 using my oil and filter, and disposing of the old oil and filter. So, it comes to about $45 for a full synthetic oil change for me which IMO isn't too bad.

Maybe if the car was open tracked hard, sure the RP or Mobil 1 might have an effect, I can't see the real benefit over Motorcraft on street driven Mustangs (all things being equal of course). Motorcraft oil is a good value, price to quality, jmho of course.

Where are you at in Ohio? I traded my '03 Azure Mach for my Roush. I love my Roush, but I sure miss my Mach!

I don't believe anything

I am very skeptical of things I hear and read until I do them myself. I have low miles on my mustang but I use my test mule for lots of experiments.

For oil I ran in my 5.0 explorer regular oil for a while. Then I switched to mobil 1 full synth in 2 of my cars and the 5.0. I then swapped to royal purple 2 oil changes ago and I could tell a difference in my 5.0 right away (not a massive difference but "some"). The car idled "smoother" than with the Mobil 1, and it felt "firmer" and "gutsy-er). So from my experience I feel the royal purple is worth it, and to me it is better than Mobil 1.

By the way, I also seafoamed my 5.0 and that helps a little bit too, although I heard you can't seafoam the 4.6.
