Best oil filter - Jomar, WIX, K&N, AMSOIL, NAPA Gold?

Have been using K&N oil filter with Royal Purple oil. Considering a different oil filter for the next oil chage.

The Jomar looks interesting - anybody used one?

Any definitive studies available about the best oil filter for the 4.6L?

Which oil filter do you use?

I use the Motorcraft filter with RP. Can pick it up at Wally World for like $3 and it is a superb filter.

I only use WIX. My 2nd choice would be AMSOIL. Stay away from FRAM.

I don't see any reason not to use Motorcraft. I've used them for years in my old FE blocks (cars and trucks in my past) with no oil related failures.

The dealer i deal with in Cincinnati Ohio said ford has been running across some filters coming apart a plugging up small cavities in the engine ,,,and they not covering warranty concerns so stick with motorcraft

me myself Mobile one filter + RP oil

wix are good filters

+1 on stay away Fram

BTW i have tore down many engines with 150,000 to 250,000 miles on them gas engines N/A that the bearings and cam journals looked good with minimal dirt embedded in bearing running mobile 1 oil with wix, motorcraft filters

Keep in mind WIX makes most hi-performance brands. AMSOIL, K&N, NAPA gold these are all made by WIX so just get a WIX. Or Motorcraft that is what I do.

I always used K&N. It's always in magazines for being rated #1. I'm still bothered by the "not using full synthetic oil" and use the factory motocrap instead. I've always used Mobil 1 or Royal Purple in all my vehicles.

This was done several years ago, but still relative.
Engine Oil Filter Study
Here is the most recent site:
http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar...ers/index.html

from above article:

K&N
It's a white Mobil 1 filter with a nut welded to the back. It's made by Champion Labs using what I call their "performance" design instead of the "Ecore". Save the $2-$3 plus shipping and get the Mobil 1.

Mobil 1
This filter is made by Champion Labs using what I call their "performance" design instead of the "Ecore". It uses a synthetic fiber element that can filter out very small particles and has a high holding capacity. It is rated by the manufacturer at just under the Purolator Pure One as far as filtering capability, but is still very much above conventional paper filters. It also has a very strong construction to withstand high pressure spikes during start-up. Given the choice between the Purolator Pure One and the Mobil 1 filters, I would choose the Mobil 1 because of the restriction concerns of the Pure One. However, as with all Mobil 1 products, expect to pay 2 - 3 times as much for this filter. I have seen this filter sold at Auto Zone and K-mart and used them a few times, but I feel they are not worth the money in the end.

Though I have never had problems, I had received feedback from a few people back in 1999/2000 that these filters may leak at the base. It seems that the seal between the backplate and can may burst under high pressure (at startup). These were on Ford engine applications.

Just a heads up, it would be cheaper to get a NAPA Gold filter since they are the same as the WIX.

The Motorcraft Oil and Filters are actually some of the best, believe it or not.

For factory recommended change intervals the Motorcraft is the better deal. If you prefer to use extended drain intervals the M-1 filter has more holding capacity and will trap impurities much longer before bypassing. It will also trap smaller particles than the paper element types (i.e. Motorcraft, Wix, etc.)

The best filter around for the price is Wix and Napa is the same as it is made by Wix. Wix is pretty inexpensive also

I've always used the Mobile 1 filter and their oils also. Is it the best? Well, one things for sure, you can't go wrong with it.

I use motorcraft now because it's factory fit and finish and its relatively cheap. I used to use supertec filters because they are made by champions labs the same makers of Mobil1 and never had a problem with them either.

But I definitely stay away from Fram filers. Way too many horror stories on those.

Motorcraft filter and Motorcraft oil for all I care...Think about it...You change your oil every 3k religiously. Then Mobil 1 or other full synthetics are a waste of your money.
