    New Bassani Exhaust is ON!

Will post pictures and a crude sound clip later today.

With the the rest of the exhaust system stock it's actually a LOT more quiet than I expected. I'm running Bassani race mufflers and thought it would be pretty loud. After I add x and headers I'm certain it will be too loud to bare.

It's got that beautiful bassani tone to it at RPM.....can't wait for a nice lopey cam and some headers/x.

I had to special order the universal oval race mufflers. They're straight through design.

I tried to use my old bassani's but they have a inlet/exit on opposite sides and they COULD have installed them but the turns were just too extreme and the likelihood of restriction and/or rubbing and banging against something else wasn't worth the risks. Square peg, round hole sorta deal.

I also got my monster knob installed. Looks and feels great. I'll throw up some pictures of that as well.

I'm looking into a new exhaust as my next mod. Can't wait to see your pics and especially hear the clip.. even if the quality isn't that gret you can still get an idea of the sound.

    Okay folks,

The exhaust is opening up a bit, as it "brakes in" it's getting a little louder, but it's still very quiet at idle and not really audible until you get on it.

I just ordered an x with high flow cats (that comes with deletes) so next week I should be able to post a comparison with and without cats with an x pipe.

Sounds perfect to me. A guy who works with me is a vette guy and although I think flowmaster have come a long way (they used to sound like crap), he's convinced his American Thunder flows sound better. I'll try to get a sound clip posted to compare. Naturally I disagree with him.

    Enjoy

(p.s. pardon my movie editing/producing skills, I'm not Steven Spielberg by any stretch)

The first is with the camera facing forward, mic facing rearward. Second is opposite.

i have the bassani x that came with both the hi flow cats and the deletes. my tuner threw the deletes right out. he said that the car will too darn loud and the fine for not running cats is not something to sneeze at. he said that those 2 factors are not worth the 3-4 extra horse i would get with no cats???

i love the sound of the x and the OR mufflers, it is too raspy for some, but I like it!!

looking forward to seeing the vid of no cats!

    Thanks guys....

Here's how the numbers shake out.

Bassani Universal Oval Race mufflers: Part number RM254512

I picked them up from a dealership in Cali for $280 shipped for the pair.

I paid $53 for the install.

They're actually pretty nice finish (not that you could see them). They have a chrome finish with Bassani scribe on one side.

I picked up the BX offroad/high flow cat X pipe for $388 shipped. I'll do the install on the x myself.

I wondering if the mufflers in the far rear have something to do with the decibal levels in the car. On my 99 GT where the mufflers were basically under the passenger seat, it was quite a bit louder and those were Bassani Streets. We'll see when the cats come off.

Running the Hi-Flow cats with the system will not be loud at all. It will deepen the tone, even if there are LTs added.

Have always been a Bassini fan myself and yes they do tend to cost more, but are worth it.

Ran the 2.5" Offroad Bassini X and straight race muffs on a red roush gt I had and it was a bit raspy without the cats, and loud. Put in those Hi-Flows that come with the modular system and it takes care of it.

Interestingly, the similar Stainless system Bassini in a 3" on the GT500 w/o cats is not bad at all. And plenty deep sounding.

To help break in the muffs, er, lack thereof , do some mid level downshifting as well as varied accelerations. In about 200 miles, it should be getting nice.

    Thanks,

I've been doing that naturally just to listen to it sing. I didn't realize there was that big of a break in with mufflers.

I'll try the high flow cats out and see how it sounds.

I love my bassani cat-back, with the OR H-Pipe they sound really good, but you definitely are not going to sneak up on anybody
