2011 Mustang Powertrains Will Debut At LA Auto Show

I will be headed out to LA in December to cover this and some other surprises at the show, but here is the most important news for Mustang fans.....

    Source: Autoblog
Los Angeles will be a busy show for the Blue Oval boys. In addition to the official introduction of the U.S. Ford Fiesta, the rumormill regarding what's powering the 2011 Ford Mustang range figures to stop spinning once and for all.

We, along with green cars maven John Voelcker, were guests with Ford's global product development chief, Derrick Kuzak, on FoxNews.com's Fox Car Report yesterday. Kuzak didn't divulge any specifics regarding the Mustang during the broadcast, but as we all headed out following the appearance, he did let us know that our Mustang questions would be answered in Los Angeles this December. Earlier published reports have indicated that a new, more powerful, 300+ horsepower base V6 is in the offing, along with the widely-expected 400-horsepower 5.0-liter V8.

The other juicy rumor floating around that we want to see come true is that of an aluminum-block version of the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 for the 2011 Shelby GT500. To that end, we simply asked Kuzak, "How about an aluminum-block GT500?" He just smiled and replied, "That's a good thought." We'll cross our fingers while we wait and see.

Everyone has been talking of the new motors. Any big changes in the body for 2011? I spent the last week out in Lavonia having the forged short block and the TVS 2300 installed at Roush and saw a black/white camo painted Mustang on the street. Thought that was odd.

I dont anticipate any significant changes on the body for 2011, save for any add-on that a special edition might bring as they just redeisgned for 2010. I would think 2012 or 2013 would be the earliest any mild changes might occur if it all.

If their promises in the past year are any indicator, which was that model refreshes will come on 3-year intervals now, then the 2013 or 2014 model year would be the next significant update. They have followed through on this plan with the Fusion and the F-Series Super Duty.

Dear Ford, if you don't sell the Fiesta with a deisel engine in the US, leave the whole thing in Europe.

Ha. Don't you know that people "don't want" cars that get 77mpg in America. Silly man! Only Yurropeeeans appreciate that kind of car. At least that's what Bill Ford said recently.

Nothing has been released on either that I have seen. Lot's of speculation due to the aluminum block showing up in some parts catalogs. It's suppose to weigh 90 lbs less. Another rumor is an IRS showing up for the 2011 GT 500.
