Anyone have an opinion on this? Maybe a 1998 Expedition .. or what about a Tahoe. I want an SUV so I could sleep in it if necessary at the track on those days where it may not be advisable to pitch a tent.
I am all set with a trailer.

I think that would be tough to find something that could tow and be reliable for 2k. If you went to 5k, much easier. Maybe look at early 90s Dodge trucks 2wd with the ol' Cummins?

Good luck finding anything around 2K. I've been in the market since last year and this year I'm finally in a position to buy something. Settled on an 05 or 06 Ford Expedition. XLT or Eddie Bauer model, really makes no diff. But it must have the hvy duty tow pkg. In 05 Ford bumped up the towing capability to 8900 lbs and the HP on the 5.4L, so thats why I'm looking at no older than an 05. Wanted to go the 4x4 pickup route, but resale on them is outrageous...good for the seller, but not the buyer. Plus an SUV, as mentioned, will allow me to secure things better. This will be our dedicated tow truck and during winter, wife can use it instead of driving her Mustang, which she's done since 06. Pickings are slim in this area right now, but hope that improves soon, 1st track event is in April. Looking for a trailer too. Would love to find a used Featherlite 3110, but no luck so far. Guess I'll rent one from U-haul till I can find one.

If you buy a truck for $2000, you'll have $6000 in it within a year. But you'll still have a $2000 truck.

Well I am not planning on using it other than just to tow my car a couple of times a year. Most tracks I run on are near my house and I can easily drive to them..... but I hear what you are saying Brian.
I think I found you one!
