    Trak Pak at VIR

FOr those wondering about VIR here is a video that I just got cropped enough to get on youtube. It is the first time I took the TP to VIR and I am a careful in place I am not comfortable. It is a blast and you learn so much about yourself and your car. I cannot wait for the SCMC Superfest event and I hope this encourages more to come.

It is obvious the car is better than the driver but I sure had fun. Thanks to the Roush guys for building such a fun drive to the track-have fun-drive home car!

I only watched 1/2 of it as I get too excited.
You'll be surprised at the amount of speed you can carry through 3. Being it was your first time, it probably took me until the middle of my 2nd event there to realize it. For me 1/2/3/4/5 were the hardest parts to get down.
Also, after Oak Tree, I wouldn't mass the brakes until after the 1 marker. Granted in the TP you probably carryin a bit more speed, but might be able to move up your braking point.
Can't wait to get out there!

    Thanks Ryan--

    1. Just happy not to be in the sand after 130+ on the front
    2. Cant remember
    3. My instructer kept saying "trust your car Push it"
    4. I am killing it--gonna completely chnage what I do I thought breaking late and turning late was right but I have watched some video that leads me to think it again. Ponykix does it well!
    5. Felt pretty good, but i was so slow though 4 maybe???

Oak Tree I felt pretty good after changing my entry this time. Tires will help with carrying more speed. My instructer thought I was in the grass twice at Oak Tree and somehow I kept it on!

Roller Coaster and Hog Pen were awesome! I was WOT all the way out of HP! Made some time there.

Hope we can be close on track in May!

You'll be amazed at what the car can do...more than you think. That's what my 25 year old SVO taught me! T4 is always going to feel slow, but if you screw it up, you get out of whack going into T5 and the first bit of the uphill esses. Roller Coast and Hog Pen are great when you don't have traffic in front of you slowing you down! After watching your vid, forced me to go finally register for the event! We should be in the same group, so we'll just have to make sure we line up by each other in the pits.

    Kevin,

You look good out there. I always like to watch others to see where I am losing and gaining time out there. I am still trying to pull at least one day that weekend. It is looking like Saturday for me. I hope to have some new software to overlay with video at the next event. It should help analyze the runs better. Hopefully we can all go out together to watch each other lines to combine the best of each of us. Only thing for me is there is no line for more horsepower.

so a roll bar is required? I guess it would.... does it have to meet a certain standard?

Walker, most tracks require roll bars for verts, and actually you really want one for your own safety. Rolling a vert at 100 mph or any speed for that matter would not turn out well for you without a bar for protection. It also has to meet standards for structure and the light bar does not count.

The one drawback to a vert, but it may be the only one.

yeah your right on that!! so does it have to be installed by a certified person? or just be of a particular make and material...

Roll bar requirements are usually set by the track and not the run group. I believe VIR is pretty strict on their requirements but not positive. Check their website. You should come Walker. It will cost you more than just a roll bar you would be hooked. I know I am.

As far as roll bars go .... some events you can get away without one in my experience. They would be private rentals. I know of a charity event at Summit Point WV that does not require it. They run two track days a year. April and September.

This is the roll bar I have:

Cars with pop up roll bars are allowed at some events. With NASA NE if you have a pop up roll bar you can only run street tires with a wear rating of 200 or more and you are not allowed in the advanced or expert groups.

I am a little worried about a pop up roll bar .. the same technology that burns your toast in the morning is your protection on the track. Here is a video. Fast forward to 40 secs.

I also think VIR requires you to run top down but agian I am not sure. It seeems that VIR requires an SCCA approved bar-If you would like I will forward this question to Tony if you are that interested.

The one I have is approved by NASA for HPDE. NASA recommends you run with the top up ... mostly to protect you from flying debris, but you can run with the top down if you like. I have run a few times with the top down ... it is a different feel .. but I feel there is too much wind getting stuck under the convertible top at speeds in the triple digits. What I would like is a speedsteer cover that covers the back seats but has cut outs for my roll bar.
