    engine skip when hot ?

i have a prob i have a 2000 stage 2 but it is a 3.8 v-6 when i drive for about 10or 15miles it will start skipping very bad and burning a lot of gas. sometimes you can smell gas when it idles when it is doing this i take it to the shop and tell them what is going on and they keep telling me nothing is wrong any ideals?

Hmmm. Not even sure where to start. When you say it skips, does it feel like it is misfiring? Are you running the A/C when this is happening? Did it just start happening after owning it for a while? Did you buy fuel from a different place? Any smoke at all? Does it eventually go away, or once it starts, it is always there?

Question about your car - Roush has said that they have not produced a Stage 2 V6 because of the suspension components. Do you have a factory plate that says Stage 2 on it? Did you buy it as a Stage 2, or did you do/have some mods done to it? I know that you are a dealer, so wondered if you got something different

Check your plugs and wires. That could definatley be the smell of un-burnt gas, and our Tahoe felt like it was slipping because one of the wires was bad. I put a new set of plugs and wires on, and the problem was gone.

my father has a 2000 ranger and his truck was doing the same thing. and it wasnt very old at the time. he had a bad O2 sensor.
when it was changed everything was like new.

i know you prob dont want to hear this but take it to a shop or if you have the equip scan the computer... if your MIL isnt coming on then it is more then likely not a O2 sensor. what it sounds like is that you might have either a plugged injector or a bad plug or wire. You can start by replaceing plugs and wires "cheaper then a vist to a mechanic" and run a few tanks of gas with injector cleaner... if that dosnt work i would suggest takeing it to someone you know wont Fn you over mechanic wise. Because it is more then likely in your injectors, plugs or wires.... You are deffently not fireing in either 1 or 2 cyl that would cause the violent shakes you were haveing at idle... and the fact you burn more fuel says that the other cyl's have to work harder to mantain speed.... My pappy always told me that if you have a v8 and you have 1 cyl missing or not fireing you now have a v6 because it takes 1 cyl power to make up and to push the one that isnt working. i know its not that extreme but it makes sense anyway....

    hope it isnt anything bad
