I must be blind..
I cant seem to notice any difference in the steering wheel you had, and this new one...
Chris, take a close look at Kev's last pic in the how-to, then look at YOUR wheel...it's fatter, and has a cool perforated "handgrip" area at the 9:00 and 3:00 (clock) areas...Originally posted by dCypher

Granted it's not a Momo/Ferrari-type wheel, but it's a cool-deal-wheel that preserves the AirBag and Cruise features of the OEM wheel...
It's on my list of "things to do"...![]()

From the text - "The stock leather wheel measures 1.21" thick, while the FR500 measures 1.42"."
It feels substantially thicker, and the leather is much softer - almost like there is some padding in there. Also, there are perforations where your hands go.
I really like the feel.

One more. I just made a little graphic with measured circles. This may help see the size difference.
[On Edit: The graphic is supposed to show a cross-section view of the steering wheel grip. It is not intended to show the diameter of the steering wheel]

Visual aids make all the difference. While I don't hink I'd upgrade based on grpi width alone, the larger diameter seems very appealing.
Gee.....I wonder if Mrs Roush2k ever wonders what kind of life style Mr Roush2k could provide if he put as much effort into work as he does visual aids? Then again, Mr Roush2k probably wouldn't be much fun to be around.Originally posted by roush2k

Damn, I didn't think the FR500 wheel was bigger. I was going to grab one! But I will never be able to shift with my long legs with a bigger wheel.
I really do like that upgrade though Kev!!!![]()

Kev, you almost had the right idea on showing the rim sizes. But... the overall diameter of the wheel actually closer to just 1/10 of an inch larger. the extra thickness is spread around the rim, not just added to the outer diameter. So for those who think the wheel is much larger than the plain leather covered, it is not.

OK, my bad. I guess I should have made it clear as to what I was showing. The graphic is not the overall diameter of the steering wheel, but a view of the grip. If you were to cut a chunk out of the steering wheel and look at it from the end, that is what I was illustrating. It is the "fattness" of the grip, not the overall size of the wheel. The measurements used are taken directly from the two steering wheels using a dial caliper.
Sorry for the confusion.

Kev, I am still a bit confused. Can you go out and actually cut a chunk out of both and take a picture. I am sure I will understand then.![]()
