Are headers worth it for a 4.6 and if they are, which ones should I get.
Thanks.

Long tubes...hooker if you don't want to remove them to do tranny/clutch work, otherwise, BBK I think...

I am in the market for some headers too... I'm almost positive I'm gonna go with the BBK longtubes. They look awesome and I read great reviews on them on stangnet. I was thinking about going with MAC but after reading all the reviews on how crappy the quality is, I've swayed away from them. Another reason I'm gonna go with the BBKs is the awesome "How-I-Did- It" article on this site. Anyone here have them? How do they sound and feel seat of the pants wise?
Long tube Hookers....what is the pick up place or what.
DS is right the Longtubes are the way to go if getting, but you will have to drop the motor to install them avgerage cost is about 700 for tubes and install. Unless you do your self. Bullitt208 did them him self and also did a write up for the install. LOL

I bought some JBA Coated Headers a while back in a GP for about $450 I think. I had to pay a buddy (mechanic) $300 bones to install. He is cheap labor also. He had a bitch of a time with them. Drop the engine, the oil dip stick has to be removed, etc. Not an install for the avg Joe. I should of spent my money on the S3 Front Fascia instead.
I have heard some good HP pick ups and easier installs with the Hooker LT Headers. Like DS stated...

There's nothing wrong with the shortie headers either really, other than they're not very proven on the 4.6L for some reason...its just more advantagous to go with longtubes if you can. Some people can't for emission and other reasons...if you have to go with shorties, JBA ceramic coated. Anything in theory should at least flow a litttle to a lot better than that stock log in there![]()

Thanks. I do have to worry about emmisions and correct me if I am wrong, but I think you can not use a catted x of h-pipe with the long tubes. I think I am goign to go with the shorties. Will there be a better exhaust sound as well as some hp gains?
Thanks again.
You can, if you can find one or make one. I know a guy on SN just recently modded his old catted pipe into the connecting pipe for his long tubes so he has a catted magnaflow x I think connected up to hooker longtubes.![]()
Not sure if anyone makes an intermediate pipe to work with any LTs that has cats, it defeats the whole purpose of what the part was designed for, off-road use

BBK makes a catted shorty H-pipe and it works well enough to get you pass strict emission tests. I use it when necessary on my Bullitt.
Thanks.
Long tubes are worth the effort, but are not legal for street use even with cats. Now with that said, here are a few pics of my set-up. Click the link below. I have BBK long tubes, BBK catted H-pipe (minus cats and altered for length) and Borla XR-1's with turn downs. The cats were removed and flanged so I could put them in if needed, more so for noise than emissions. The H pipe was lenghtened to clear the cross bar for the Torque arm. The tailpipes were removed because they were contantly banging around the Pan-hard bar, plust they had melted part of my rear fascia. All I can say is that it is way to loud for street use, which is not a problem since it is not street driven.
