Having problems with the plugs by the MAF

Having problems with the plugs by the MAF

I took a pic so it'll be easy to explain...

in the pic... the plug that i have unplugged in my hand...
when I have it plugged in, the car wont run right. it will stutter until it shuts off. when i have it unplugged, the car runs fine.

i had the problem where the car would stall and stutter, then i unplugged this plug one day and it ran fine..

what do you think the problem is?

heres some info on the car

99 3.8 manual transmission
mods: dual flowmaster exhaust..4 gutted cats. k&n filter

o2 sensors might be damaged.. i dont think it would cause this problem tho. all of the o2's are plugged in.

car ran fine, after gutted the 4 cats..it stalled out a couple times... i thought the problems were from the o2 sensors...but they might all be from the plug thats shown in the picture.

autozone did the codes for me

p0113
p0102
p0135
p0141
p0155

i dont think the cats have anything to do with it.
my 97 gt has straight pipes (no cats at all) with the o2 sensors just zip tied to the h-pipe..o2s arent plugged in. it was like this when i bought it. and it runs fine.

should i try cleaning the maf sensor with electrical cleaner? any other things that i should clean? if that all fails, then i'll buy a new maf sensor from autozone.

Did Autozone give you the info on your codes? If not you can go here:

I would try cleaning the MAF with carb cleaner. Spray it on and just let it air dry. Good luck!

It sounds like a sensor failure of some sort. It is likely going into a closed loop read without the MAF hooked up and it is not looking for the MAF and its readings. Once you hook it up, the readings are not matching what is really going on. Start by cleaning the MAF as mentioned above.

Since the problems arose after gutting your cats, I'd be almost certain it's your rear O2 sensors says "wow, this sumbitch is running rich" since the cats aren't able to do their job.

Essentially, it's like having an off-road (catless) midpipe.

Get some MIL eliminators.

If it just happened after gutting the cats, I'd be almost certain it's because you need MIL eliminators for the rear O2s.....

But, to clean your MAF, take off the filter, and spray some electrical contact cleaner into the slender tube thing that houses the element. Look inside there, you'll see the element in there. Be very gentle while spraying into it.

it was my maf sensor causing the bad idle and stuttering.
i cleaned it and that didnt do nothing. so i took the maf sensor off my 97 4.6 and put it on the 99 3.8 and it solved that problem.

put the old sensor in the 97 to test it and it was all idling crazy and shutting off..so its definetly the bad sensor. i'll have to buy another sensor for the 97. will it hurt using the 97 sensor on the 99? a guy at autozone said they're the same sensor.
