Transmission

Two weeks ago I drove from Los Angeles, CA. to Dallas, TX. I now live in Little Elm. I noticed that my transmission was leaking fluid. So I took it to a near by shop, Kwik Car Care. I have no idea of this is even a decent shop , but it's the only one I know of since I'm new to the area.

They took a look at my car and told me I have a leak where the driveshaft connects to the transmission and in the front near the pump. They quoted me $600+ (they gave me an exact number, I just don't remember). I gave Eagle Transmissions a phone call, found them in the yellowpages.com site, and they told me that since it's leaking from the pump area, that the pump itself might be going out. He also said that I might need to rebuild my transmission, if I do that it will cost me around $1,800 .

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars, so I wanted to ask you guys if you thought what Eagle Transmissions told me was correct. Also, I was wondering if any of the Dallas members knew of another shop I could get my car inspected and have them give me a quote?

I'd get a second opinion. Also, if this is not your primary car, I'd put some cardboard under the tranny and see where the leaks are coming from. If it leaks like they said, spot in front and back, it could be true. I'd also take the time to wipe down the bottom of the trans to make sure fluid is not running from front to back. Mileage and trans type would also help..

If your car is a v6 it prolly has the Tremec T5 in it.

V8s have either a T45 or T3650

All of these trannys, especially the T5, can be found used very cheap.

I bought a T5 and T45 for 250 each just install or get installed for bout 100 or so....

Tranny shops always sell the rebuild even if you dont need it. Ebay brother

The Kwik place is a very large chain in Texas, not saying that's a good thing, I can't go into the details, but, I would shy away from the Kwik locations...they are very similar to Jiffy Lube type places...NOT ASE Certified etc. Don't get me wrong, some of the best old school cats don't hold a certification.

The mileage is in the 90,XXX. It's my primary car. Now that you mention it, I have only seen it leak from the front. Luckily it's not a huge leak, but a leak nonetheless.

I've been thinking of swapping out the AODE tranny with a T-5. I know it's possible, but I need to do more research to see if anyone has run into any problems with this kind of swap. If I decide to go this route, I don't want to shell out over $1,000 to rebuild my current tranny. But I do want to fix the current leaks.

I'm going to try to take the car to Eagle Transmissions this weekend and have them visually inspect it. I'm also going to try and find another shop and get a quote from them as well.

Thanks for all the help guys!
