Cooling Questions 95 Mustang

I am upgrading my entire cooling system in my car. I have so far Fluidyne Radiator, Canton Overflow, Upgraded Water Pump, new hoses, 180 Thermostat, etc... Anyway my first questions is...

The water pump comes with a paper gasket. The instructions say to apply silicone to both sides of the gasket and install. Should i do this or get rid of the paper gasket and just go with silicone?

Second.... My heater core went out today. Oh well i will change that out as well. So who has done this and how hard is this? I know it is buried in the dash somewhere.

The WHOLE dash has to come out for the heater core! Plus I believe the freon charge has to be removed...a real pain in the butt to do this job!! Very expensive at a dealer...

I live in fear of this happening on mine someday...good luck & keep us posted on how it goes.

Well i might be okay. When i popped the hood i saw water leaking from one of the hoses that run to the fire wall (hard to tell which one with the intake in the way). I guess possibly the leak from that hose ran through the fire wall and in to the car. The carpet was a little wet and not drenched like it would be if the core leaked directly into the car. I can get those new hoses and see if that fixes the issue. If not i will have to see how much the reapair is and then decide if i really need a heater.

Sounds like one of the HC pipes are cracked or rotted through.

I didn't think the ac had to be discharged to remove it though.

So Tom when can you make it down here to fix it for me?

Are you talking about a inside or under the hood?

lol

More than likely it would be on the inside. The tubes come off the side (facing steering wheel) and bend back through the firewall. If I recall correctly the tubes come through a foam material on the firewall that protect leaking from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment.

I have to replace mine this winter also.

It was a major leak comming from one of those hoses. I was leaking all over the headers. Like i said the carpet was slightly damp not drenched. So i am hoping it is just the hoses on the outside. So sometime today/tomorrow i will take those hoses off and hope for a craked hose and not a cracked HC pipe.

I think these are the hoses i need to replace if the heater core tubing is not cracked. Hopefully i have a set of them in my other kit.
