TOB and Splines - Clutch Question

I have a bad squeak and grind everytime I push the clutch pedal in. After replacing the cable thinking it was bad, there is no change. I figure it's the TOB now. I want to replace the TOB and pilot bearing at the same time, but will need the cheapo clutch aligner tool and dont know which to get.

I have a 2000 GT, do I have the 10 or 26 spline? If it is 10 and I want to upgrade to 26, what do I need to buy....26 spline clutch ass'y and new input shaft? Is that even valid?

I have never done a clutch job before and figure I might as well replace the clutch while I am in there. I only need a clutch as good as OEM for now. I have no plans for power adders anytime soon and with Christmas near, I dont have any extra cash for a fancy clutch. I spend about 2 hours a day in traffic so I dont want anything that will make my left leg look like Popeye either.

Any recommendations?

PS - I searched, but most posts recommend going much tougher and stronger for increased HP apps....I dont need that.

Thanks!

I would just recommend buying a ford OEM replacement clutch for your ride if you aren't interested in upgrading..BuT..this is one of those parts where you might as well while your in there kinda things...I would recommend a Spec Stage II clutch for your NA daily driver. That is what I've been running since February. I drive the car only 3 days a week, but have had the car on a few road trips w/o any issue. I paid $250 for the clutch and $320 for the aluminum flywheel (you could save this money and just resurface your existing flywheel).

You have a 10 spline clutch. Forget the 26 spline idea, it requires disassembly of your transmission to do. You can get your flywheel resurfaced for about $50 or less at any competent machine shop. Make sure they use a surface grinder and not a lathe to refinish it.

How do you like the aluminum flywheel? Did it affect the idle quality or low speed characteristics of driving your car?

Thanks,
Glenn

I love it! It revs up a bit quicker..and the RPMs seemed to drop quite a bit faster too...The guy who did the installl was VERY impressed with the Spec 2 and Fidanza billet aluminum flywheel combo..He was nay saying at first...But he loved it after he installed it and too it for a ride.
