Question Could you help me troubleshoot? Transmission saga continues...

My transmission saga continues....

So I got the new T56 in...

The whole reason I bought the T56 is b/c I thought the synchros were going in the T3650 (keep in mind car only has 30,000 miles). The symptoms were as follows. Between EVERY shift there is a 1 second pause. You cannot go in any type of smooth fluid motion from one gear to another. Well after getting the T56 installed guess what, same exact Problem!!!! I have adjusted and readjusted the clutch cable over and over with the same results every time. The clutch engages and disengages fine but I always get the damn pause between gears.
The whole problem started when I switched to a ford racing clutch cable. But I just can not blame the issues on the new cable as it seems to be working fine. I have a steeda firewall adjuster, steeda clutch quadrant, fidanza flywheel, and spec clutch. I'm trying to troubleshoot and just cannot figure it out. How could 2 completely different transmissions have the same problem? Any in-site would be much appreciated....

The problems you describe Josh were common to almost every Mustang I have ever owned. It is almost a characteristic of how these things operate. Maybe you are driving the wrong brand car for the level of mechanical refinement you are looking for.

But to play Devil's Advocate......

Stop over-thinking it. Use some deductive reasoning and common sense. If the problem started when you changed the cable, that is your problem if in fact there is one.

We are thinking that its the cable and also the firewall adjuster.. Hopefully tomorrow we can eliminate if its the cable. I've personally never have ran a firewall adjuster and adjustable cable at the same time.. I'm leaning towards these two working against each other, but just not sure. So, were not really overthinking things, just looking for other scenarios once we get past the cable issue and the problem still exists.. As of now, what I don't like is that there is no free play in the pedal during the first inch of travel. Thanks for the info..

I have heard all around the net to stick with the OEM Ford clutch cables, no adjusters, etc. because anything else almost always causes problems if it isn't what came on the car.

So I called my local ford dealer today to order the new oem clutch cable. The guy was somewhat baffled as it seems that ford just released a new part number for the cable 2 weeks ago? He wasnt sure what changes have been made to the cable but I guess we will find out tomm....

Anyone work at Ford that can confirm this and tell me what the new changes are?

The Cobra that I had did the same thing. I changed to a MGW shifter and it still did it. There was a slight pause as it went through Neutral. You could speed shift it but you had to be careful. There was nothing wrong with my tranny.
