turn engine by hand?

whats the best way to turn the engine by hand with the front FEAD system on it? i need to lower the piston to get this spark plug hole reamed and tapped.

You are going to do that with the heads on? Get a socket on the crank and wrench it over. Make sure you have it out of gear.

Take all your plugs out also, so it cant build compression.

you can't get to the nut on the crank pulley with the FEAD on the front. it does not appear that the front FEAD nut turns. this is a stage 3.

on a NA car, you'd do it like you say, but it was not obvious to me when i got under the stang.

thats not by hand. i have one of the fuel rails off to get to cylinder 3. besides i cant predict where the piston will end up like that.

i finally was able to do it. i used a big screw river and put it between the outer crank pulley and the inner pulley. i could get anything to turn trying to use the front of the outer pulley.

i did take all the spark plugs out too.

Manual trans?

With the key off, put it in a high gear and push the forward or back.
you can usually get to whatever crank position you want with only a foot or two of actual car movement.
