Exhaust question

So.... I have a 2003 cobra and it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy toooooo loud. I just don't think it is the right sound for me... it is the Magna packs with bbk long tubes. The wife - after driving to Woodward agreed it was a bit too much.

One of the things I am going to do is dynomat the whole car for when the stereo goes in.

I want to hear the whine of the blower and less of the exhaust.

That being said..... I don't want the spin tech sound.... it is just as loud and I want the solid sound that you hear from most Cobra's.

What the recommendations? I know I am limited due to the side exhaust......

Check out the stock Roush Cobra side exhaust. I think with long tubes it would sound sick, very subtle (unless you have an off road mid) and deep. Mine was very quiet with stock manifolds and mid-pipe, too quiet but you could hear it wanting to get out. I think the LT's you have would accomplish that. The Cobra version of the Roush side exhaust is a tiny bit different from what I was told and is it's own part number and uses the enhanced sound mufflers or something close - ask S3M, that's where mine came from from the previous owner.

The other thing is.... the blower is going to get ported too..... so i don't want to negate any gains with crap exhaust

Negative. Damn it, I can't find it now. I swear after I got my car, I had seen a side exhaust Roush kit for the Cobra, and was under the impression the one I had gotten shortly after getting my Cobra was different than the GT one because of something with the IRS. It looks very similar to the normal side exhaust kit though.

I do know that my exhaust came from Stage 3 Motorsports (can't find it on either site now), and that they kept getting shipped the wrong part, which is why it got drop shipped to me not the owner/original purchaser. I'm curious to know what you find, because I'm kind of in the need for a new one being that this one is now a little too oiled up

Chris the car sounded good with the stock magnaflows on the car I just wanted something louder. You might want to check out bassani or slp I think they make a muffler like what you already have and you can also check out svtp there are some great sounding cars over there.

Chris, I've been thru this routine, the problem you will have is finding a muffler that will fit between the back seat floor boards and the IRS suspension. You have 13 inches of room to play with, thats it. Unless you can find some type of bullet style muffler, then your looking at making it work with side exit exhaust. Maybe a set of C5 mufflers can work, just check out the dimensions and go from there. looks like the Borla stinger or Corsa mufflers from a C5 Corvette could be made to work.

I still have my stock stainless MagnaFlows around the garage somewheres, they were dead quiet.

I will have to do some research to find the correct answer but I know FLOWMASTER did a 70 or 80 series muffler that is a good sounding one but still loud enough and it was produced for the Camaro and I believe it was exactly 13" so they should fit between your IRS and stuff. I'll get back to you. I have a friend at Flowmaster and I will call him later today.

Roush didn't use the magnapacks on cars w/side exhaust. The packs were only used on the BC roadsters and maybe some of the 380Rs, 440As, etc....
The previous owner of your Cobra installed the Magnaflow Magnapaks after SonicBlue2002 and I explored the idea and revealed it to the site. Turned out a couple peeps on the board had already done it. Nevertheless...I have to admit it is loud and for some excessive, but I have never gotten a complaint about that setup on my S2, but then again I don't really drive it much anymore.

i may be the only person on this board to recommend this, but i have dynomax catback. i was looking for oem sound, just louder, and dynomax was (maybe still is) the oem for ford.

I have jba shorties, bassani catted x-pipe, and dynomax catback.

IMO, it rumbles, its hearty, but not obnoxious, and when you romp on it you know it!!

Above 3k on the hwy you will need earplugs or the solid stereo your putting in.

I bought those Jason and they didn't fit. Would work great on a Stage 3 but too long for the Cobra IRS. I sold those mufflers to Nemesis and got the Spintechs.
