This was an installation we did with Steve on his '01 Stage 3.
We installed Ford Motorsport Shorty Headers. We used Bassani gaskets
because the FMS headers came with cheapy paper gaskets. We also
did quite a bit of porting on the headers because of the amount
of excess weld that was around the openings. We did not attempt
to port them perfectly, but rather knock down the big, obvious spots.
While we had everything apart, we also installed a Flaming River
steering shaft and an aluminum drive shaft. The driver side seat
was removed to help with the attaching of the steering shaft to
the connection at the steering wheel. That sucked. We ended up grinding
the edges off of the new shaft to help with the install.
The headers went in with minimal hassle. The k-member was dropped,
old manifolds removed, and the new headers put into place. New grade
8 bolts were used with locking mechanisms.
Some of the photos show a comparison between the stock manifold,
FMS shorty headers, and JBA shorty headers.
