No Brakes!

Story by Kev (Roush2k)

What?? No brakes??

While driving to San Francisco on 04.25.00, I heard a couple of things hit the bottom of the car. Just figured that I had kicked up something from the road. On the way home, I found out the those two things I heard hit were probably the bolts that hold the left front brake rotor on!

On the return trip, I started to hear a rubbing sound coming from the front of the car. I slowed down and slid over to the slow lane to listen closer. Sure enough - it was coming from my car. As I pulled to the shoulder, it became very apparent what it was - I had no brakes to stop. Oops.

When I took a look at the front end, I found the left front rotor sitting in the wheel. The wheel was very scarred, and the rotor was locked in there pretty tight. I got it out and called a tow truck.

Upon delivery to Frontier Ford, they confirmed that the brake had fallen off (thanks for the clarity!). They did get me right in to get it reattached. Thanks to Jim out there, he seems to be the only person there that actually gives a damn.

After the repair - and the removal of all of the wheels to inspect the others - they deducted that maybe Roush hadn't torqued those bolts properly (again, thanks for the insight). I really don't care who didn't tighten what, all I know is that I am real glad that I wasn't burning down Hiway 9 when this happened.

While I was at the dealer and feeling pissed, I talked to Hal, the GM of Frontier Ford. I whined to him about the stuff that they still hadn't taken care of yet (3 months after The Purchase). He took the matter into his hands and got them taken care of. Thanks Hal. Just wish I didn't need to look like an ass and go to the GM to get stuff taken care of.

The "After":
Still waiting to hear back from the dealer about resolving my brake issure. I was told by Jim that they would get me a new brake setup, brake line, and a new wheel to replace the scarred one. Whoo Hoo - new brakes!!
