In spite of the rain Labor Day weekend, the 2002 Mustang Grand National Mustang Show at Lowe’s Motor Speedway was a galloping success. In all, over 750 Mustangs were exhibited, 100 vendors/sponsors, 130 track entries, 300 speedway cruisers and a record breaking banquet attendance of almost 400. Scot Hoag of Ford Motor Company did a presentation of the new Mach 1 and Jack Roush was the main speaker. Jack signed dashes of Roush owners before the banquet and also a lot of items that went to the show auction. After the banquet, Jack went outside the Speedway Club to unveil his new mustang, "Jack Roush's Classic Mustang".
On Saturday, in pouring down rain, Highway 29, which runs beside Lowe's Motor Speedway, came to a complete halt due to Mustang owners and enthusiastics lined up to get into the show. Organizers estimate the three-day event attracted over 1,125 Mustang owners, 250 vendors and over 3,000 attendees.
Event Chair Carol Barker says the turnout exceeded organizers’ expectations. “Even though we had inclement weather, the show was an absolute, fabulous success. After expenses, our club will be able to make sizeable donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Carolina Computer Access.”
